Lower vehicle prices may (?) require life-style changes from consumers.

Its not just the material things, but your career/business starts to weight you down. It's hard to just leave it after working hard to build it, but lately I realize that I don't own my business as much as it owns me and its not easy to find a way out.

But that’s painful to do, there are a lot of mental blocks that make it difficult to do that. You’re better off living simply from the get go.

There is all kinds of information out there about minimalism.

To be clear, I have no interest in that, I like
my life the way it is but I do see where they are coming from. I have made many choices in my life that in fact do cause me a lot of stress. Sizable home with a yard, kids, high stress career, people all over my life that depend on me both professionally, personally, financially, dog, expensive lifestyle that needs to be maintained…I’m responsible for a lot and life would be a lot simpler without any of it.

One of my friends who is my age, is single, no kids, inherited apartment so no mortgage etc. Not into cars has paid off older Camry. Its just a different lifestyle.

All about finding a balance but hard if you have kids, home and lots of responsibility.
The last time i had a vacation of more than a week at a time was back in college and even when you’re off, the emails/phone still need to be answered as clients call. As you get older, its much more difficult to get away from everything. I wish i can take 1 month break and then come back to regular life but it’s impossible lol.

Not only that, but, the last thing you want is to be away for a month, with no one at home, and have a leak start in one of the pipes, or maybe have a bird or animal invade your attic and start leaving droppings, that is not detected for weeks. There are a lot of advantages to being home most of the time....besides saving money.

Wouldn’t you just shut off the main water valve if you were away for a month?

Yeah, I read it, or rather listened to an audio version, it was off to a good start but then it went completely off the rails into fantasy land. My views on life are a lot more cynical.

Yep, its tough.... I have taken exactly ONE real vacation in the past 20 years where I had zero contact, and that was 10 years ago. I take a lot of vacations with my family (once a quarter or so for a week-10 days) but I am always plugged in and working.

You should, but hardly anybody does.

You just have to make sure your sprinklers (if you have them) are on a separate valve.

This is somewhat odd, but even so, I generally have a high opinion of Consumer Reports, and, according to them, right now, ALL of the most highly-inflated over-MSRP prices are on Kia and Hyundai products. Not quite sure I believe it......but this magazine generally has good info.

The Worst Deals on New Cars Right Now

Some models are so hard to come by that consumers are paying well above the sticker price for them

If you have your heart set on buying a new car this year, be prepared to pay significantly more for some models—or choose one that isn’t in high demand.

Inflation, parts shortages, and a recovering economy have all thrown a wrench into the auto industry, putting a severe strain on the new-car market. So forget about saving money off the sticker price on many popular cars, SUVs, and trucks. Some are so hard to come by that consumers are paying well above the sticker price for them. That includes must-have models like hybrids and electrics, and those essential for business, such as heavy-duty pickup trucks.

In fact, the average price for new cars has climbed thousands in the past year, reaching over $46,329 in November 2021, according to Kelley Blue Book.

Trade-In Value EstimatorIn some cases, you might think it’s worth the extra money for your dream vehicle, even if it means greater depreciation over time. For other vehicles, it may be better to seek a suitable, more plentiful alternative.

Below we present the 10 cars, minivans, and SUVs that are selling the most over the sticker price, starting with the highest and using specific trims as examples. Again, Hyundai and Kia dominate the list. All highlighted models are from the 2022 model year.

CR members will see ratings highlights and detailed pricing on specific trims and configurations. Keep in mind that this list doesn’t factor in Consumer Reports’ recommendations, nor do we endorse paying such premiums on a new car.

Just beyond these 10 models, there are several others transacting at 16 percent or more over MSRP, including (in rank order) the Chevrolet Spark, Ford Maverick, and Nissan Frontier.

Of course, local pricing may differ. You can see the transaction prices for these and every other mainstream vehicle from the model pages at CR.org/cars.

CR's Build & Buy Car Buying Service

When buying a car, in addition to research and reviews, Consumer Reports offers members access to the Build & Buy Car Buying Service at no additional cost. Through this service, a nationwide network of over 12,000 participating dealers provide up-front pricing information and a certificate to receive guaranteed savings off MSRP (in most states). The pricing information and guaranteed savings include eligible incentives. Consumer Reports members have saved an average of $3,218 off MSRP with the Build & Buy Car Buying Service.

I know most people don’t. But staying home instead of going away is not the solution.

The new Ford maverick is a nice looking, useful yet cheap car IMO. I can't believe I find myself drawn to any ford but I'm tempted to get one to replace my Jeep.
