As for the next M5, it will be out next year and in November's C&D they echo the 5.5L V10 rumours. It should be faster than the current M5 so V10 sounds somewhat legitimate.

you guys think the 5 looks like a PONTIAC, wait till you see the new 6
while there is no doubt BMW's are good in handling and performance but damn i wouldn't buy a v10 aztek even if it did 0 to 60 in 4 seconds flat.......would you?????
just an opinion

Maybe it is one of those things that takes time. Although I've gotten used to the new BMW look, I am not convinced yet. Visually, the last BMW bodies I like wer the E46 3-series and the E39 5-series.

well, i said i didn't like the new rangers in '98 when they came out, then a year later i loved them. now the new one's make the 98-99-00 look like a turd. things grow on you. maybe this will. for now i like the previous 5 series.

Us BMW nuts are running, and running fast, to find a nice old M6. Now, that is a car that is still stunning almost 20 years later.
I saw a black new 530i yesterday. Not nearly as bad as I expected. Just not as ubersedan looking as the E39. The muscularity is gone. In fact, I think both the 7 and 5 would be much better with a simple fix of the trunk, headlights, and tailights. The 530i is much better from the rear than the 7.
But they don't look as good as these much older cars.

I was in Germany last August and rented a new 520i for a week. I'm not in love with the looks all-around and I really dislike the console rotary control ala the 7 series. But the interior is larger now, and the car is more comfortable and yet handles better than the older 5 series (not an easy feat). The 520i is actually a 6 cylinder 170hp base model with a 6 speed manual transmission - no slouch on the autobahn... I love BMW's but the new ones are just a bit off the wall for me. At least they haven't screwed up the 3 series (yet). I do wish Lexus could make the GS handle as well as the 5's while retaining the ride. My dad's 540i Sport has the ideal combination of ride and handling from a factory car, at least for Texas road surfaces.
