France requires car ads to promote walking, biking, riding a bus

good idea, or how about 2 pictures side by side of with diagonal split... one of a person driving, smile on face, in a serene cozy car, and the other of people either at a bus stop or walking in hammering rain looking very grumpy.
agree completely, except for workers commuting in, who should still pay something but maybe be able to get an annual pass of something. but for tourists, they should pay a bundle driving into manhattan.
it varies but in some places is not as high as you might imagine especially compared to heavily taxed areas of the u.s. they do tax consumption higher though (non-essentials, energy, etc).

I would never drive any of my cars there, I wouldn't even want to take a rental. Not much worth visiting in the first place but if I did go again I would just Uber in like last time.

NYC just failed to impress me, I had a private box for a broadway play, had lunch atop the NWTS, and did a bunch of other highlight type stuff and after spending thousands it really didn't do it for me unfortunately. I would have much rather spent what I did going on a helo hog hunt or something. Or renting a supercar for a few days etc....
I have felt most at peace/ease and happy with being in a place at Eureka Springs AK, it's my favorite place and me and my wife go every year.
It's not fancy or high end but for whatever reason it's just fantastic, we know a lot of the locals now since I'm the only mixed race guy they really ever see lol! The main event we go to is a week long shoot hosted by Wilson combat and we also visit with NHC and some other companies. The evenings have so many options for food we are only though about half of them and again, not the highest end but it just tastes great for some reason.

I remember there was a huge outcry amongst hipster freaks on soyboy bicycling websites when Mercedes aired these ads, lol.

Now all Lexus needs is a car that can actually hit a 3.3 or less that isn't the LFA

Lexus has super high quality and comfort, but that isn't understood until you sit in and drive one. Hard to get people in the door when the competitions mid tier cars are murdering your flagships 0-60
Lots of power and speed make up for a huge amount, the ability to have command of the road via enough power to always be where to want to be is a luxury aspect from the experiential standpoint.
You go on any roads in a 3.5 second or really under 4 sec 0-60 car and you are basically god of the road. Someone going too slow on a backroad? Three of them? Pass them all instantly. Someone tailgating you on the interstate? Jump up to 140. It's a grand feeling.
Put another way let me ask you this, would you enjoy your car if it only had half the power it does? Would someone who drives an S-class V8 still like it as much if it had 1/3 the power?

Depends on the model involve. To this day, I still think the superb 4Gen ES300/300 was the best, most refined, and well-done ES in history....much better than the current ones.....which, I'll admit, may be a little faster from 0-60. And most Lexus buyers (although some here on CL may be exceptions) don't care about 0-60 times.
A definite yes. Even though my car has only three cylinders and a turbo, it still puts out more torque than I use (or need) most of the time. I would not enjoy it, though, if the engine had only half of the refinement it has now.....even with the noted and effective Buick Quiet Tuning, having only three cylinders cuts noticeably into the refinement level while under acceleration. That's one thing, of course, that an electric version would eliminate.
IMO probably not, but let Steve answer that one.......he owns one. S-class sedans are also designed for the German Autobahn, with unlimited top-speeds. Driving conditions here in the U.S. are often quite different.

I agree that gen ES is great, all the ES gens gen after that are very close power/performance wise.....also a bit of an issue in and of itself since that's 15 years of same old same old.
