Default 2023 BMW 7 Series previewed at CES with 31-inch screen inside

The interior at least. The big takeaway is the massive 31-inch top-folding theater screen, and the door handle-mounted control screens.. The 7 Series itself is hidden in a box with only the doors being exposed.

cool video. i also thought the changing exterior color on the car behind the 2 people talking early one was amazing.

i do think watching that huge screen inside while going down the road would likely give me motion sickness though.

I didn't mention the changing exterior color because there is zero chance that will ever go into production. It is neat though.

The chairs vibrate with the screen too... no comment.

I don't get it. For one, no movies or videos are made for that aspect ratio, so they won't use the whole screen or they will be stretched/distorted.

Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing. The aspect ratio for a movie would never fill the screen and if it did it would require the movie to be stretched to the point where everyone would look like 4ft fat people.

Yep, exactly. That footage shown at the show was edited to display in that ratio. The Sienna or the Odyssey, I don't remember which had a wide screen like that which you could display two different movies on, or one stretched and the one stretched looked awful. And the two movies, why would you want to watch your movie while also seeing their movie right next to it? Wouldn't you rather just have a nice screen in front of you that was all yours?

More tech for tech's sake that makes no actual sense.

The parts of the screen that aren't used display other parts of the infotainment for each passenger. I would still take individual screens over this and can't imagine why anyone would want it since they can't even sit in the center like the minivans and CUV's we usually see these sort of screens in.

Needs more screen, I can still use too much of my visual capacity for driving. Need to only have 5% max!

i expect that wide screen will be able to play 2 different movies at once, side by side for the left/right viewers. maybe it will even have a 'privacy' option filter so viewers on left can't see the movie on the right and vice versa.

anyway, it's CES, show for whacky ideas.

Solved a long, long time ago...

...along with displays embedded in the headrests for individual movies. Can just display the same movie on both screens if both passengers want to watch it.

Can't imagine why I'd want to watch something off-angle with my head tilted. It appears to be an IPS, given the black levels... can you say GLOW?

The BMW rep in the video pretty much assured that this will make it into production in the new 7 Series...

I used to be excited over technology they put into cars, but lately it's so over the top, it made me realize less is more.

This is what interior should look like, none of these toxic screens.

There's a happy medium, I wouldn't go back to a car with NO screen. Rear seat entertainment options are nice too.
