Another video in a similar vein - Mercedes 300SE. One of my all time favorites. Timeless classic.

I think some would say that yes, this era and class of car from MB was the pinnacle of the MB brand. I think Bill from AutoEuropa Naples (the creator of the video, very entertaining!) pretty much says that. Its ultimately a matter of opinion and I am sure some might argue that other series were "better." The line I like best from the video is that the car was designed and built to be "indefinitely maintainable" and indeed many of these cars are looking great and still on the road today, more than 30 years later. I really like that idea, built to last, indefinitely maintainable, built pretty much without regard to cost.

Honestly....MBs from that era never appealed to me. I don't like the interiors, they're too firm and cold.

They are really well built. I remember when my Dad had his Cadillac and his Lincolns my friend's uncle got that generation E420 V8, black with the 5 spoke monoblock wheels...it was sharp, and so much more solid than those American cars it was like night and day.

My '05 LS430
I had looked for a year or so for a good MB W126 but all the ones I found were suffering from rust (note to file: cars from BC rust like crazy), oil leaks, worn seats, bad suspension or some combination of the above. I gave up and started looking at the LS430s. My '05 which I bought over 4 years ago was in near perfect condition at 109K miles and is still a cream puff, everything works, no issues at all. While I think MB may have been at the top of its game in the late 1980s-early 1990s I think Lexus surpassed them in terms of build quality and reliability with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation LS cars. They are "gorgeous" too.

my neighbor has an e500 still in great shape.
he also had an S550 AWD until recently when someone didn't stop and ran into the back of him.
