My late father had one of those...except as a Sedan De Ville with four doors. I'll have to do a write-up one on it of these days.

That's what was known as the famous "Chopped" look....lowering the coupe-roofline and having gun-slit windows. It was very popular in the 1950s, especially with Mercury and Lincoln coupes from the late 40s and early 50s. It also lowered the center of gravity a little, which made the car handle marginally better in an age with cars generally handled like boats.

The song "Hot-Rod-Lincoln", for those of you who have heard it, is a tribute to those cars.

These are my personal favorites, I don't put too much stock on looks but these are very nice to my eye. Agreed on the S-type, I like it as well.

I included some from each category/type but there is an obvious show of my bias toward massive front mid engines......I probably like the looks as an extension of the cars mechanical attributes. I would have to admit that if it's looks only I prefer late 90s early 2000s flowing/liquid designs best.

Cars are in order of how much of a dream car they are for me if I could just pick one with no strings attached. Yeah I know the LFA should probably be first but I have never driven one....I have driven a TA a few times and nothing has compared since.

There is no reason for the 2nd gen CL to have aged as well as it has. Bug eyes, swoopy lines, has all the hallmarks of early 2000s design that mostly aren't thought of fondly today.

But damn if it isn't still sexy.
