Might be an interesting question for someone in the thread with an advanced math or physics degree to address. I know JDR76, for instance, is an engineer.
The fact it ramped over is probably better, if it interfaced directly the hit would have been worse since instead of a glancing blow it would have increased peak force.

As to what people chose to drive that's up to them, but as someone who started with full size trucks I don't have much desire to drive them anymore unless I'm doing some thing that requires them. I rather drive a smaller car like an LS day to day but I'm very aware of the disadvantage I'm at in a crash.

To be fair, roads in many areas of LA are not very large.

I don’t remember seeing many BOF SUVs at all in our area, West LA that weren’t livery in the 2 years there. It was all Maserati convertibles and the like. Rolls, Bentleys, Ferarris. I’m sure outside the city more in the suburbs BOF trucks and SUVs are everywhere though.

When I got back to Tennessee it was like a night and day difference, dizzy from all the expensive BOFs. The roads and parking spaces are also huge here, huge.

For sure, the ramping released a lot of the crash force, would have been much worse had the Prius taken the full brunt of the impact.

For me, I would love a big SUV like that for highway trips. In order to get the cargo volume we have in the Pacifica in an SUV, thats what we would need. BUT, driving something around like that day in and day out just to have it for those road trips just strikes me as silly, when most of the time its going to just be my wife in it, and the kids some of that time...
