Hmmmm, this was the 2nd post that recommended a Subaru. I never considered one, but I hear they are very nice AWD vehicles. I just don't have any Subaru dealers around and never actually owned this brand before.

As for the $30K-$40K beater, hey I still need to travel in beater style?!

Hey how about a Volvo XC90 (Volvo's new SUV)?

I saw one on the road today and it actually looks overall.

Any comments on this vehicle, anyone own one?

2 vehicles come to my mind really quick, but doesn't fulfill your requirements....a new Lancer EVO VIII or the Impreza WRX STi..... if you can live without the Navigation option.

This is our "beater" for our shop.......lol...

Lancer Evo VIII w/ JDM all red tail lamps.....

lexguynj,

In ur sig it says u have the new RX330, which has AWD and is around 40k. Whats the point of another vehicle with the same things? The Volvo XC90 is in the same segment as the RX, they are very similar.
I guess i just dont get what ur looking for.

Take a look at the Honda Pilot, very nice SUV, and it has a good NAV system.

Sorry I should have clarified that, the RX330 is the wife's car, so in snowy driving conditions this upcoming winter (going or coming back from work) she'll be at least able to move around with the AWD.

However for me, I'm stuck in the snow, since my BMW 330i with Sports Package will not move anywhere (those big fat Z Rated Tires are no good in snow).

I'm not one of those people that buy a separate set of Winter Rims and Tires, mostly because NJ is a hit or miss state when it comes to bad winters. We either get dumped on or not (last winter was bad, the year before was like summer).

I'd basically like a 2nd vehicle (car or truck) for myself that has 4x4 or AWD to get me through these winters. My other option is just moving to Hawaii, where I don't think I will come across this snow issue!

Thumbs up lexus

i would honestly get another lexus, i bet you could get a rx330 for around 40k with your trimmings. A 2001-2002 lx470 could be purchased. you got some killer options.

In that price range with those requirements, I can't see NOT looking at another RX or an Acura MDX. Since you're also a Bimmer fan, how about a 325xi or 330xi?

The 330xi is a nice choice (AWD Car), however I already have a 3 series and I also want to get a low key, non luxury brand as a normal everyday car. Great choice though!

There is something about the Highlander that makes it actually look nice. Not flasy, a little rugged, practical, good space, and actually nice looking too. I can't explain it, however it is one of my top choices.

The new 4runners look great and actually have decent power these days. I have to take one for a test drive and see how I like it. Since the 4runner and Highlander are at the top of my list now. The Sequoia and LX are too large for taste at this moment.

Hmmm...since you already have a SUV why not a sedan that fits the bill?

You can order a Volvo S60R with leather, bi-xenons, AWD, active chassis, 13" Brembos x4, 300 hp, and navigation for UNDER $40k. If you opt for the 6-speed you'll have a 5.4 second (0-60) AWD car that can be boosted to 355 hp (4.8 seconds) for $1k and 5 minutes of your time.

Thanks.
