In reality, this is only 35 minutes away from where they live now.

Its kind of like living here in the DC area. People live in DC, MD & VA but they all live in the same major area. So even though he hates NJ, there are many reasons to move there from NYC.
Yep, I can move my business to a close proximity to NYC, and then get a house somewhere on the shore.

I hate suburban lifestyle in general, but it does come with many positives.

There are parts of Jersey that are very nice, particularly near PA (not Philly, lol).

I can't post it here, but do an google image search for "map of nj stereotypes". It is hilariously accurate, and there is a part with "lawyers driving hybrids".

I see, makes sense. My wife's nephew got married and moved to NJ from Northern Cal and bought a giant 5 bedroom with a backyard as big as a park, the joke was that when he mowed the front and finished with the backyard the front yard needs mowing again. He paid less money than I paid for my 2 bedroom I had at the time, and I just made a comment that why do we live in expensive California when we could buy a house much cheaper out here. He gave me a quick stare and said "because you don't have to dig your way out of the snow like we do".

The big issue in NJ is real estate taxes. A $500,000 house can have a $20,000 annual tax bill.

Thats a huge problem with NJ. They don't seem to have many sensible properties, it's either a congested place not much better than NYC, or gigantic lots that I don't care to upkeep.

It offsets when you don't have to pay NYC resident tax.

That's right, he did mention property taxes. My property tax on my house I bought in 2015 is $10K a year, his house he paid almost $20K on his $500K house. Also he told me a lot of the townships have corrupt leadership

And yes, that was Meadow, Tony's Daughter driving, and that was Tony's son, AJ.
Yeah - I've seen like 2 episodes, and I knew right away (I do have the soundtrack tho, so I know the song intstantly), and totally got the commercial. And it was hard to miss all the hubbub over the final episode.

That’s nothing. Where my spouse is from (Rochester, Webster) that would be roughly a $48-60,000 property tax bill for a 500k house.

Well it’s not “nothing” for sure.

I’m not a fan of NJ at all, but i did look at places in Westfield and Scotch Plains when I moved out of Brooklyn.
Both nice areas with good schools and close proximity to Brooklyn.
Clark, NJ is next town over and is a bit cheaper.

The ridiculous tolls everywhere and having to drive through SI to get to NYC is a big pain.
You will save a ton on taxes though compared to NYC.

Thats why everyone in Tristate area got screwed over with SALT tax. The high taxes are primarily in good school districts.
