Cargo ship with new cars on fire in the Atlantic

Pole Position
Not sure if it is still the case (I think not), but for a long time, electronics with lithium batteries couldn't be shipped by air. There had been enough spontaneous lithium battery fires in packaged products that the FAA put them on the "no-fly" list! With great power comes great potential for a melt down.

And now the ship has sunk. I guess that's what it took to put the EV fire out.

Lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles on board made the fire very difficult to extinguish, the captain of the nearest port said, raising questions about the safety of transporting them when carmakers worldwide are stepping up production.
no oil leak had been reported so far but there were fears the (ship's) fuel tanks could be damaged as the vessel lay at the bottom of the Atlantic at a depth of around 3,500 metres (2.17 miles).
