I was at Euro Motorcars in Bethesda (Mercedes) today looking at a CPO car for one of our CL members, and I looked at the new stuff on their lot too. This is a 2021...not a 2022...E63S Wagon. A rare car for sure...but check out this markup. I love how they still have the stones to charge the $499 doc fee lol:




This is a DEMO S500...with 1600 miles on it. Normally this would be deeply discounted:




Walking around, everything had at least a $10,000 market adjustment.

What is everybody else seeing where you live?

 

The adjusted price should be $90,600, not $90,601. What were they thinking?

 

Roughly 10-20% more than MSRP, exception is highly desirable models. Those are quite large and variable assuming they even are for sale or just sitting in the lot waiting to be picked up by the person who ordered them.

 

When we were looking at SUVs for my in-laws, the GV70 they looked at had $5,500 mark-up on it. This was about two months ago.

My neighbor said her new 2022 Bronco Sport, with the Outer Banks Package and other options, went out the door, license, tax, tags, processing fee, delivery charge (the works) at 41K. I didn't see the Bill of Sale or the window-sticker, so I don't know any more of the specifics, and I don't want to pry into them too much out of courtesy and politeness. She and her husband went and did the shopping (and the show-shopping at the D.C. Auto Show) themselves...I wasn't along to help this time like I sometimes am.
They were also impressed by the Ford debit-card offers at the show and the factory rebates...the ones you and I have talked about.

As for the sticker on that E63 Wagon you posted, sometimes, as below, pictures speak louder than words. I've reviewed and test-driven an E63 AMG, and, while it is one impressive machine (no one is doubting that) it is not worth 212K, even in big-money Bethesda or Tysons Corner.

 

I know! Had to get that last dollar.

For 200K, you could also get into a new Bentley Betayga, absent any markups.

 

Is the market for high-end sedans so hot right now that there is a shortage of models to warrant the gouging there too?

 

due to chip shortage mb is cutting back a lot of v8 cars across the whole lineup. so any v8 cars are getting big ADMs. i keep track of G63 and they are easily over 100k ADM now.

e63 wagon is a rare car to begin with and often carries ADM. now with the shortage on mb v8, prices go up even more.

porsche gt3 started with 50k (when i inquired), now it is about 100k i think. the cargo ship that caught fire in the atlantic has bunch of gt3 in there, i think this will continue to drive up the cost more.

porsche gt4rs is also crazy, i heard over 100k ADM as well

 

The dealer added a ton of stuff, about $7k worth of like service packages and some other mumbo jumbo that I cant remember. I gave them teh finger and paid MSRP for my 2022 GX, that was back in Oct 2021. I was loud and obnoxious at the dealership. Then the finance guy screwed me lol, with high rates lol. Long story short, I paid MSRP and had to refinance to lower the payments.

 

In most cases, for a car with even reasonable levels of demand the dealers have little to no incentive to remove mark up because there will almost always be someone else right behind you willing to pay an ADM if you are not. The only reasons my most recent and an upcoming purchase didn’t / wont have an ADM is because those particular dealers happen to have a no ADM policy on ordered cars. For now it just is what it is.

 

This was a fun video I stumbled upon during the week. Civic selling for $88k towards the end as well as a RAV4 Prime at $97k. Lmao.

 

I meant that sometimes dealers will display someone's car while they wait for them to come pick it up. It's not for sale but still there to draw people in out of curiosity, the Ferrari and Bentley dealer does this and they have a huge window you can see from a few streets over anything interesting they are showing off at the time

 

With all these markups and shortages, I have a feeling that many high end car manufacturers will be hit with hefty losses.
