Default CT4-V Blackwing vs IS 500 (ClubLexus Official)

Hey, Folks! Palmer here from the front page editorial team. I recently reviewed the new Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing for one of ClubLexus' sister sites and came away very impressed. Because it shares a sub-$60K MSRP like the IS 500, which I also loved when I reviewed it for ClubLexus, I thought it would be fun to compare and contrast their strengths and weaknesses --

If you had $60-$75 grand to spend on a sports sedan, which one of these two would you pick?

I like the CT4-V, I like the fact that you can get it in a manual, but I would chose the IS500. My money would always be on Lexus reliability and comfort. CT4 is just a bit to flashy for me while most people wouldn't know if I was driving an IS500 or IS350 unless they saw the quad exhausts or heard the rumbling V8

I love both cars but the Blackwing would be awesome to have. I bet you can get crazy power out of it too!

The CT4-Blackwing is the better lease vehicle...just beat the crap out of the car for 3 years and return it. The IS500 is the better keeper though for sure...not as capable but you know it'll run forever.

There you go! My sentiments exactly, the long term costs of ownership of the Blackwing would be higher, from reviews I've seen the materials used in the BW interior are not that great

One has an 8 one is a TT6.....I would go with the 8 and get the RR setup with it. Sound is a big part of enjoyment and the 8 has room to improve to the point it can contend with the full Blackwing

For that money if we are talking used I would buy a D4 S8 and uprate the downpipes, charge pipes, turbos, and cooling and get ultra light rims. 2.8 second 0-60 and 10.8 1/4 mile proven combo

I have a soft spot for s8 too, I would have one if the Audi forums didn't scare me, I think its a perfect combo of Luxury and sportiness. same goes for CTS V. I guess end of the day all of us here appreciate how good Lexus is in terms of reliability

I was actually shocked how friendly the D4 is to work on and how badly overblown the turbo issue is, I wholly rate it as easier than both my LSs for any service. I was expecting to have to "pay" for the cheap speed with hellish service effort but I was astounded when I could do something like plugs in 30 min or turbos off in two hours in the garage, they are shockingly well setup. The whole cooling system is easy to get to by just dropping the front undertray for example, everything is right there and easy.

It will and has had more little things go wrong than my LSs and it by far is the lowest mile but it's also way easier to work on, I would rate it as a draw I guess. With only a tune my A8L beats a S8 non-plus 0-60 and 1/4 mile, the real deal S8s are insane with the tune and are in the 10s with no hardware mods and 100 octane.....if you do hard mods you are WELL into the 10s
