Everyone. There is no valid argument that Genesis has anywhere near the brand cache as BMW. Most people in the general population have no idea what Genesis is.

Name some of this "far more advanced" technology the BMW has over the G90. I didn't know missing AWD with a 6-cylinder makes it more advanced lol.
Are you kidding? Look at this car.

Those vehicles even at 20% over MSRP are still cheaper than comparable BMWs. Its like the Telluride and Palisade, big reason why they are so in demand is they are still cheap compared to the competitors.

Genesis has a LONG way to go before they will really be a peer to BMW or Mercedes. Look at Lexus, 30 years in and they are not a peer.

I had a Lexus when the company was still 8 years old. I remember explaining to people what a "Lexus" was. I remember my aunt mispronouncing it "Alexis". Something has no prestige to a group that doesn't know what it is. Those people knew what a BMW or Mercedes was. If I were to buy a Genesis today I would be right back in that spot.

And even today going from a flagship Lexus to a flagship Mercedes, the difference in reaction from the public and people in my family is huge. People just wanted to go for a ride in it, nobody ever wanted to go for a ride in my Lexuses, and they wouldn't want to go for a ride in a Genesis G90.

There's a big difference between "Genesis doesn't have the brand cache of BMW" and "Genesis is unpopular/undesirable."

Are you kidding? Look at this car.
I'd rather not lol.

Comparing like for like, 6-cylinder to 6-cylinder, there's little if anything the BMW has that the Genesis doesn't beyond the badge.

At $10K+ markup, I'm not sure that a GV80 or GV70 would be cheaper than its German counterpart, but that's beside the point.

The point is that the demand for these vehicles far exceeds their supply, hence why they have some of the biggest markups in the entire industry. Obviously Genesis isn't anywhere near BMW or Mercedes or even Lexus in brand prestige. But that doesn't make it an undesirable brand as some would like to assert.

t.
BMW and MB still separate themselves over a Genesis. A unique inline 6 experience can’t be had at Genesis. And just look at how behind Hyundai is in engine tech vs Toyota, Hyundai needed superchargers, turbos and mild hybrid to clear 400hp. The 3.5th in the Genesis still trails Lexus in HP numbers

And an AWD experience can't be had with the 6-cylinder BMW.

The BMW and Merc aren't in the same league either, an S500 is an echelon above both the 6-cylinder 7 and G90 in price (and prestige).

Funny how you keep bringing this up even though C&D's latest comparison test had the G90 be faster than the LS500 with better fuel economy to boot lol. The LS500 isn't even remotely competitive in this segment beyond the Lexus badge, which doesn't mean much to a German buyer.

Look how how behind the engineering of the Genesis is compared to the BMW. The BMW with awd and a V8 is more fuel efficient than the rwd V6 G90

The G90 is actually AWD only. And I guess the LS500 that you brought up has terrible engineering too lol

No question, the BMW V8 and inline 6 are impressive engines. But they aren't exclusive to the 7.

Nice try. That Lexus Ls there is not even a mild hybrid. The Genesis G90 is and is so far behind for a new motor. Face it, Genesis is far behind on engine tech.

Mild hybrid isn't for better fuel economy, it's for stop-start smoothness.

It is definitely for fuel economy and other things. Lexus LS500 doesn’t have start stop. Mild hybrids do.

this just sums of the engineering superiority of BMW over the Genesis G90. We could pick it apart in other ways too

Then explain why those two BMW's have the exact same fuel economy lol.

By the way, age isn't an excuse when the then-new LS500 had worse fuel economy than the 3 year old 7 Series at the time of its debut.

Start-stop tech in the BMW. And smaller displacement

So Lexus wasn't advanced enough to add stop-start or make a smaller displacement 6-cylinder like the 3-year old BMW. Okay lol.

Those aren't really the reasons why it had worse fuel economy either, but

Credit where credit is due, the new BMW V8 is pretty incredible. Almost as efficient as the S500's inline 6.
