This is an “M Performance” model, not an M car. Like how the M340i is not an M3, or the previous-generation M760i was not an M7.

In the electric space, they already have the i4 M50 and iX M60. The i7 M70 will be the next M Performance variant of their electrified vehicles.

It will be a while before there is a full EV M car, as it’s already been confirmed that the next M5 (MY25) and M3/M4 (MY28/29)—along with the X5M/X6M and X3M/X4M that share their respective powertrains—will be plug-in hybrids. The first EV that we know of currently will be the 2029 iXM.

Most rumors I’ve seen from magazines both in the U.S. and Europe suggest we’ll see both PHEV and EV versions of the next M5.

There were rumors to that effect back in 2020, but I haven't seen anything more recent. And more importantly, nothing whatsoever in the actual leaks, a lot of which is captured here, and have proven to be extremely accurate. CAD drawings were leaked, which included no EV variant. Additionally, PHEV test mules have been photographed out and about repeatedly this year, as well as on the 'ring. If they were doing their first-ever BEV M-car, you would think they would want to do a LOT of testing to make sure it lived up to the brand.

Just got an invitation to check out the new i7 at my local BMW dealer next week. I think I’m going to check it out in person to see what I think of it.

I saw the car in person yesterday. Not any better in person, at least the M Sport version.

Did you get to sit in it and turn it on and at least check out the features/options? If so how was the comfort, roominess, interior design, etc? Did it have the presence of a flagship?

Didnt turn it on, it was in the showroom. But I did get to sit in it. It’s HUGE, tall and feels almost like say a RR Phantom, or the Presidential
Limo where it looks like a car but the proportions are not of a car, not sure that’s a good thing. The hood feels almost SUV height. It has presence for sure, but some of that is because it will stick out and look odd. The front has like an overbite where the top of the grill sticks out beyond the lower valence. Think old non F Sport Lexus NX.

It’s beautiful inside, very nice materials but it’s really blingy and many of the touches like the crystal light strip and seat controls are just fussy and over the top. Seat stitching is very odd.

The car has a distinct Gucci, Louis Vuitton vibe that doesn’t appeal to me.

Id like to see a non M Sport.

as one of the guys in the video says, car is stupidly complicated. but very nice capabilities. and 'touch' even for hazard lights (no button)? insanity.

i still think it's stupid ugly AND boring. a unique combination.

They even admitted it lacks theater and is just a rolling tech expo that will feel outdated as hell in a few years. The paint is shocking considering how nice the door cars and seatbacks appear to be, it's strange seeing such a lack of uniformity of excellence like that when the paint is an option. I hate the look of the front but the side and rear has a good imposing presence

I’m surprised about the paint, the previous 7 had beautiful paint…

To be fair, the poor paint is likely because it's a preproduction vehicle. Though it's funny how glitchy those automatic doors are when BMW spent two decades making them for Rolls Royce.

I don’t know that it’s a preproduction vehicle. The production vehicles are out…
