Best Toyota steering wheel design ever. Should be in all sporty Lexus models. The triple tailpipes is something that should have been done ages ago.
Overall, the entire offering is boy-racer and too expensive.

1. Motorsport-based design sublimated as functional beauty
Exterior
  • ・Compared to the Corolla Sport, which has the basic skeleton, the front fender is expanded by 20 mm on one side and the rear fender is expanded by 30 mm on one side.
With a wide stance, it gives a feeling of wild driving.
  • ・The 3-out muffler created to further increase the output of the 1.6L in-line 3-cylinder intercooler turbo engine emphasizes the powerful and sporty rear view unique to the GR Corolla.
  • ・As a result of thoroughly training cooling performance and aerodynamic performance on all roads such as circuits, dirt roads, and snowy roads, we have installed intakes on the front bumper and outlets on the front fender and hood bulge.

Indoor
  • ・A short-stroke shift lever is used, and the arm is placed in a position where the arm is naturally lowered from the steering, enabling quick shift operation.
  • ・A guide type is adopted for the parking brake with a view to vehicle control applications in the limit range such as drift driving.
  • ・Newly adopted Full TFT meter developed exclusively for GR vehicles. Taking the opinions of professional drivers as a model for racing cars, we have improved visibility during sports driving.

2. 1.6L in-line 3-cylinder intercooler turbo engine evolved from GR Yaris
  • ・The exhaust efficiency of the engine has been improved with the aim of further increasing the output of the compact, lightweight, high-power unit mounted on the GR Yaris.
By adopting a three-out muffler with a valve, both exhaust pressure reduction and sound deadening performance are achieved.
The engine is finished so that you can feel the overwhelming acceleration and the comfortable increase in the number of revolutions.

3. Excellent running stability and control performance due to wide tread and long wheelbase
  • ・With the body of the Corolla Sport as the basic skeleton, while maintaining the excellent running stability of the long wheelbase, the
front is 60 mm wide and the rear is 85 mm wide tread to improve high-speed turning performance.
Stability and controllability during sports driving have been greatly improved, and you can enjoy running in the limit range with confidence.

4. Trained sports 4WD system "GR-FOUR" and high-rigidity body
  • ・Like the GR Yaris, it is equipped with the sports 4WD system "GR-FOUR" that uses an electronic multi-plate clutch to change the front-rear driving force.
This time, by separating the 4WD mode that controls the drive distribution and the drive mode that controls the accelerator response and steering, it
is possible to select according to the driver's preference and driving environment.
In addition, we are working on making bushes into pillow *****, optimizing springs, absorbers, and alignment,
and transmitting the optimum driving force distribution of GR-FOUR to the road surface.
    Achieves overwhelming turning performance.
  • ・It aims to respond quickly to the driver's operation and strengthens the body rigidity.
In addition to the high-rigidity basic skeleton realized by production at the Motomachi Factory GR Factory,
we have improved steering stability performance by adding braces between the rear wheel houses, underfloor tunnels, and under the floor in front of the tank. In addition, the roof panel made of CFRP * 6 material, which is molded by the SMC * 5
method, which has a high degree of freedom in shape like the GR Yaris , not only increases rigidity but also contributes to weight reduction.
  • ・Equipped with an opposed caliper brake that realizes stable braking force and controllability.
You can enjoy driving on the circuit with confidence.

5. Advanced safety and security equipment installed in sports cars
  • ・The latest preventive safety package "Toyota Safety Sense" is standard equipment.
It provides both safety and security in daily driving and the enjoyment of driving as a sports car.

Still going to be mid 5s, and that's assuming the driver shifts fast. I was expecting more

A Corolla weighs 700 pounds more than a Yaris across the entire spectrum. That 50 extra horsepower is needed to mitigate that weight.

That being said, nobody buys a manual hot hatch to be fast.

Nope.

In fact, it has been tested in Australia to do 0-100 Km/h (62mph) in 4.8 seconds.

https://performancedrive.com.au/toyo...st-video-0915/

Can even out accelerate at BMW M3

https://fastestlaps.com/models/toyota-gr-yaris (0-60mph in 4.6s).

The GR Corolla has a slightly better power to weight ratio, so will be low 5's. or high 4's. Not mid-5's as you have claimed.

The new M3 can do 0-60 in 3s flat and has way over 500hp. Maybe you meant an M2? 4.8s for a hot hatch is competitive with the Golf R, CTR, and the late STI. I think they will sell every one they make.

Good enough I guess, it will probably sell well. Too slow for me to consider at that price

They'll sell every one they make because they won't make many of them. Case in point, the GR Yaris is sold out globally until 2023. At just 25,000 models.

Toyota GR Yaris Hot Hatch Sold Out Globally For 2 Years

The dealer markups on this thing will make the ones on the Civic Type R and Supra look like pennies.

62k? I highly doubt that. Can’t see this being A91-CF Supra money.

Would definitely consider one as a daily driver.

He's talking about with markups. And some Civic Type R's are currently marked up to that extent.

Yup and it's insane. They are not 60k cars in any aspect

The more I look at this car I keep thinking Toyota should mass rollout the 1.6 into EVERYTHING like GM does the LS or even how Toyota does the 3.5 V6, might cost a little more up front but it would elevate Toyotas reputation for performance and as more and more are made it would become as cheap as an LS so aftermarket would become massive. A V6 or I6 that is this twined would be great or even a 12 but we know Toyota would never make that.....this engine once aftermarket blocks/parts come out can be a really good way to have 4-500hp that fits anywhere with ease. I'm just hoping it doesn't have the same issues the RS did, hopefully it trends more toward the VW group engines in terms of tolerance to power increases

not really 3s flat, seems like 0-100kmh is pretty steady 4s. But yes, it is faster than GR Yaris.
However, that sheer 0-100kmh is not the point, whoever is just interested in mashing their pedal few times per day, should really get an EV. Like me.

Whoever wants to have great driving experience and enjoy every second of it, GR Yaris/Corolla will work really well.
