Are EVs quieter than luxury ICE vehicles?

A tesla doesn't idle. It can "idly sit" but it doesn't idle in the way that term is used to describe a car idling.

When cruising yes, but when you have to pass or speed up you can hear the engine, especially if a downshift happens. In an EV all you hear is a slight hum when you accelerate, even hard. I agree about the wind noise, it's more noticeable in an EV. Noises from bumps and road imperfections as well

I already conceded that my Polestar is not as quiet as an LS, which is an expensive luxury brand, but it is quieter than most other ICE cars in its class. Polestar is not a luxury car. Also you really have to stop making ignorant statements, its starting to get very annoying

Sorry friend. Hope no offence was taken I would consider a Polestar 2 an entry level luxury sedan where I am....or least it is priced that way. It starts at $6000 more than a Lexus IS. I tried to find some stats on the DB of your Polestar but nothing is stated. You can see here a Lexus hybrid at idle is quieter than a Tesla at idle as both would not be running...so items like wind noise, drag, HVAC fan noise etc etc all come into play. https://www.auto-decibel-db.com/index_kmh.html. A 2013 LS600h rings in at 60.3db at 70mph
Car and Driver tested a 330e vs. an ICE 3 series and measured the decibels at idle. It was 30 for the EV vs. 43 for the ICE...same car, different powertrain. At the higher speeds, wind noise dominates the powertrains in steady cruising.

It is true that due to lack engine sounds things like wind and road noise are more pronounced, but it's still a pretty quiet car. It has very good sound proofing, and the tires are padded so they don't make too much road noise. You do hear bumps suspension noise much more, but it's definitely quieter than my 2010 IS350. Just keep in mind that the Polestar is not a luxury car, its more a sporty economy 4 door fastback

Nobody is going to describe a Tesla as "idling".

No worries. The discussion got a little electrified and now is "hush hush" the decibel level are quiet....Things happen....families fight.
Somehow....someone has 4Runner vs Polestar 1 comparison.

i'm not sure why they are comparing it the polestar 1 lol. That's a supercharged, turbocharged 4 cylinder plug-in dual motor hybrid, msrp $155k. Not bad power figures, 619 hp/737 ft-lbs torque, but it's a luxury sports sedan. This car actually peaked my interest in polestar
