A 4 can sound good, a Lotus at full attack is not at all a bad sound nor is a S2000 at 7k+. It's econobox engines that I just would rather not hear.....the high performance 4s have a frenzied tone to them that is like a Ferrari 8 cut in half.

If a car claims to be a full, two number AMG car it should have a tone to excite the driver and constantly pull at them to floor it into the high RPM ranges. Sound is a massive factor for emotions and memory in humans and leaving that out of a car that is allegedly for enthusiast use is strange to put it nicely.

I don't know, it might just be me but the sound of certain engines is so engraved in my memory I can almost hear them at will and I can instantly identity a few from miles off. Nothing gets me chills like the sound of certain engine when driving them hard or winning 1st place at shoots, those are my two top feelings of thrill/adrenaline in life.

Just please update the pump first, that is an amazingly fun engine since you can REV it and not break speed limits. One of THE most rewarding cars I've worked on when I got to drive it after the repair with the owners permission. I still keep it in mind when I look weekly for cars to flip since if I can find a nice car with one I may turn it into a track toy

Yeah, V6s with extremely few exceptions do not sound good. I-6s are badass and the only non-8/10 config I would ever own in a serious context. By that I mean that I can see myself not owning any 8s if I had a really really good I-6, otherwise I will always own an 8 with a 10 as a dream car/goal to strive for.

Porsche flat 6s do not sound good to me nor do GTRs/VQ engines, the Honda JXX series is almost passable when at high rpm unless it's an early one with real V-Tech post cam switch. Those sound extremely angry in a good way.

I know it’s apples and oranges, but my BMW with only 335hp does 0-60 in 4.6. I’d rather drive a 5 series than this 4 cylinder banger.

I am hoping that the 4 banger will help my C43 value go up. I really like mine.

I agree, to me a good inline 6 sounds pretty good (although not like a V8) and the two I have owned I really liked including the 2JZGTE and the B58. I also agree most V6 engines don’t sound great including some that I have owned including a 300ZXTT and GTR but I feel like there are always exceptions and the one V6 that I think sounds good is the newer NSX. I heard one drive by and somehow Acura made that V6 sound exotic IMO.

the J35Y5 in the MDX sounds great, probably my favorite sounding V6 i've driven... especially in that 5000-7000 rpm range

Some early first drives trickled in. They bode well for the C63 in terms of experience (noise obviously notwithstanding). Sounds like they really tuned the hybrid powertrain well. I still think it should've been quicker though.

EDIT: Sounds like TopGear found it to be a bit synthetic and apparently the tuning was off in some cars. Will be interesting to see the in depth road tests. https://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/...ic/first-drive

Ironically, it looks like they have enough space to fit in a V12 under that hood if they wanted too.

I like the looks in that red matched with the wheels. Very vibrant color!

To bad I'd never consider it due to that engine. Unfortunate. Smh.

Ha!!! Possible, but also don't care. Especially when it'll sound like a clapped out Civic and cost way more too.

I do wonder what the aftermarket would look like for this hybrid 4. The aftermarket for Stingers is pretty strong with multiple options for cheap and potent tunes.
