Why can’t people do some research and know the difference between the eCVT and CVT? There is literally no similarity other than the names.

I test drove and it wasn't a bad van, it drives very nicely when going steady on the hwy, but I wasn't very impressed. I would rather keep my 2013 Sienna which now has over 160K on it. IMO my 2013 with all it's rattles and ageing is a much better experience

That would have been the perfect engine, and there is a significant MPG savings over the 3.5L NA. I think they went the direction they did because why buy the RX450h? The Sienna has much more utility. Personally I would buy the a Sienna over an RX, and probably many more like me would do the same thing. I always say I'm not buying another ICE and going fully EV, but since they don't make any EV's equivalent to the Sienna, if it had the Hybrid V6 I would buy it

It's because it takes too long and it's a bit pedantic to try to delineate between the two. And no one cares enough to really separate the two.

The e-CVT they use is amazing and easily one of the most reliable transmissions ever. Literally a surefire 300k+ miles with no maintenance ever needed, trade off is since it's a hybrid you trade having a potential risk of trans failure for a guaranteed battery repair at some point.

The negatives when it comes to how they feel are the same. "e" or not, its still a CVT and I still don't like how it feels.

Technially you could in theory have the system use very hard steps instead to feel just like normal gears when you want it to.

Droning is more to do with weaker 4 cylinders where peak power is at a rather high RPM.
Have no such issue on the GS450h and the Rx450h.
Have driven the Ls600h and it doesn’t drone at all.
Having said that, the A25A from Toyota that is now used on all Lexuses from the ES, to NX and RX is a rather droney sounding engine, eCVT or not. Lexus had to insulate the hell out of it.
