haven't followed all this thread, but you're saying you think sienna buyers are not interested in fuel economy? if that's true, why did toyota make it a hybrid?

CAFE and emission laws are forcing much of this, independent of what may be consumer demand or wishes. Even light trucks (which minivans are sometimes classified as) are now subject to regulations that they were once exempt from.

I'm saying its not their top issue, not even close. Why did Toyota make it hybrid only? I have no idea, I think it was a mistake. Having the hybrid and a V6 version would have made the van way more universally appealing.

toyota is clearly winding down the use of the v6. i expect the next highlander for example to be a hybrid 4 only. that will be a shame because the highlander with v6 is so silky smooth.

What they should do is come out with some more hybrid 6s to replace that old V6, or a 48v mild hybrid 6

I would drive a hybrid 6 Sienna with better power. Same with the Highlander.

During development of the new Sienna. It was 100% their top focus. Once they get that part down, they can focus on other things within the overall package of the van.

I understand that, I think focusing just on the low powered hybrid 4 variant narrowed the Siennas appeal which was a mistake.

But, like I said virtually all Toyota's choices alienate me as a customer nowadays.

I have obviously moved on, doesn't mean I still am not dismayed by many of Toyota's choices.

I don’t disagree. I don’t like the downsizing of engines. Nor do I like the idea of turbos. I don’t really like TNGA stuff for the most part. If new 4R ends Japan production, then I just won’t be a fan. Same with the engines, if they go 4 cylinder turbo, then that will just suck. But Toyota did the right thing for the Sienna IMO, people care about fuel economy and $1100 savings a year is a massive savings for a young family.

I don't disagree that having a hybrid variant for the Sienna makes a ton of sense, its just having that as the only option.

As for a "young family" needing that gas savings, lets be real...these Siennas can be close to $60,000...these are a luxury purchase. Give people an option. What I have an issue with at Toyota lately is their refusal to give people options.

lots of engine choices in the NX. 4 to be exact. Corolla has 3 engine choices. RAV4 has 3 engine choices. Tundra has 2 engine choices. So, no you are not correct that lately they refuse.

Yet you see here...no choices. No V8 option for those that want it in the LS, LX, etc. Makes no sense that there isn't an engine option in the Sienna and it costs them sales.
