Yeah, just like how the NX350 was supposed to have a 3.5 litre V6 instead of a 2.4L turbo 4-cylinder, right? Lexus naming designations are not a sign of consistency.

I dont think Toyota/Lexus cares what the competition has or is doing. The Highlander going only 4 cylinders when its competitors are all still V6. Same with Sienna. The RDX is more of a NX competitor than RX, but NX is 4 cyl anyways. I dont foresee the RX keeping the V6 at all.

The 2.0t isnt terrible terrible. It just doesnt idle smoothly nor sound very good or quiet for that matter. Its relatively smooth when it is off idle and peppy is the word I guess. Havent driven the 2.4t but it sounds about the same terribleness and dont know what the smoothness will be like.

The Lexus 2.0t acceleration is good enough but the sound and feel are just awful. Can of bees. Also there is turbo lag I noticed, not terrible, but there.
At least this new one is larger in displacement, like you say that might help performance. But it's still going to sound like ****.

Given the popularity of the RX and the price point, 500h+ just makes sense. ...so would offering a cheaper, regular flavor h with a 4 cylinder.
I would hope that a 2.4L would equate to better highway fuel economy in the real world. The larger displacement should result in one being able to maintain a highway speed (70+ MPH) and remain out of boost. So it's interesting to see where automakers (Toyota, Subaru, Ford) gravitated toward the 2.0L turbo and are moving back up in displacement.

The BMW 2.0 (and Audi too) is arguably one of the best out there. Fuel economy is very good too.

And to think that we're settling for computers without CD-ROMs! Times change. Sounds like Lexus is striving to be no cylinders.
