Upon reading more, should I be impressed with the MPG of these cars? Honest question. I dont know what is considered good in this class but to me, 25 mpg seems lackluster for the 500h. 33mpg for 350h?
It really just looks like a restyling of the current model, kind of like a really major facelift instead of a new car. I guess they're taking the Porsche way of slowly evolving their cars.
Might as well since their power train is on that kind of cadence... :X

It's 26 mpg, but yeah, the standard X5 with the B58 gets 23 MPG and will run circles around this.
The Volvo XC90 Recharge, which is the closest powertrain competitor to the RX, also gets 26 MPG, but it's officially a full second faster to 60 mph. Toyota/Lexus really struggle with turbocharged engines.
But then why did they not need to do this with the new NX?
This is a design choice, not something they had to do.
Why does EVERY design have to have some major weird thing we have to get over?
An NX doesnt have to fit a 500h engine only a 4 cylinder. Why else would they do this. Or did they just raise the hood for no reason and make visibility worse? The beltline looks higher in this one than the previous gen, maybe the hood had to come up for that.

yes 26mpg. I fat fingered that.
thats a shame. More complexity with a hybrid and a smaller engine, all to be underpowered with no real gain in MPG. This powertrain is excelling at nothing. Completely pointless. Oh and probably with an outrageous price!
Some footage of it in person... I'm kind of indifferent to the exterior, but the interior is definitely much better than the current one. Have to see it in some other colors to really make a final judgement.
Remember the RX from 2016. When it first came out it had a vomit inducing grill and over styled body lines. People just got used to it because so many of them were on the road.

The 500h is not your traditional hybrid, its a 2.4L turbo engine with a 6 speed direct shift auto (no eCVT), paired with eAxle rear and electric motor front. We know from the NX300 that the 2.4L turbo is a thirsty engine with poor fuel economy. So 26mpg for the 500h sounds about right with some regen braking.

500h should have just used the 3.5L v6 from the LS500h/LC500h. The economy would be better and performance unlikely to be worse. But I reserve my judgment in terms of how well the RX drives with its eAxle - which seems to be selling point of an likely (overpriced) 500h.
The 350h will get economy of your typical NX350h - slightly worse as its heavier/bigger.
Lexus needs to offer a real 3 row version suv like yesterday. Lx is the only option and even that 3rd row is not that great now. As my kids are getting taller leg space is a real issue.

the current rx-l is just stupid.
besides that, i'd like to see better proportions and less busy design, but i doubt that will happen, lol.
