It’s actually pronounced Cash-Kai and Nissan named the vehicle after the Qashqai people, who live in mountainous Central and Southwestern Iran.
It's interesting that Nissan (apparantly) didn't get much feedback from that. Volkswagen, as you might recall, got complaints from the nomadic Touraeg desert tribe in North Africa when they named their large SUV after them some years ago.
