I keep thinking about what you said about having a single door on the right and I'm guessing that's the driver side in it's native market.

Here's what the older Clubman was like....and how it differed from the conventional four doors of the Countryman model. The Clubman was more utilitarian....kind of like a very small Handy-Van. In the left-hand-drive (American) version, there was only one door on the driver's side, and these two opposite-opening doors on the passenger side, designed to allow larger bulky items to be loaded. In the back, you had utility-van-style opening rear doors instead of a lift-hatch.
Chevy HHR. GM figured Chrysler had a hit with the PT Cruiser so they thought they would take a crack at it.
Not only did GM try to copy the PT, they even used the same designer. Bryan Nesbitt was the designer at Chrysler, and after the Cruiser took off, GM hired him to do something similar for Chevrolet.
