We were actually in South Bend this weekend and went to the Studebaker Museum. It was really neat, and I highly recommend it to anyone who finds themselves out that way. It covers their full history from the early 1800s up through their demise in 1963. Large number of Presidential coaches and "Last X to roll off the assembly line" models that have been preserved, along with some prototypes and one-offs.

We did not make it to the Avanti Museum and Guest House across the street, though we did check out a white 4-door with license plate AVANTI that was parked out front when we arrived. Only 90 4-doors were ever made.
Yes, Thanks.....I had forgotten about the limited-production 4-door Avantis.

The South Bend plant closed in 1963, but regular Studebaker production continued until 1966 at Hamilton, OH.

Thanks for the reminder of the Studebaker and Avanti museums. I used to travel to South Bend for business but never made it to them. A road trip might be necessary. They're not too far for me.

Also, in Auburn, IN is the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum. It's in a beautiful restored old car dealership and has a great collection of cars. Worth a trip if anyone is in the aea,

For those who are not aware of it, Cords and Auburns of that era were front-wheel-drive.....more than 30 years before the FWD Olds Toronado and Cadillac Eldorado debuted in 1966.

And since it's fully painted, it's a 2nd gen. All 4 fenders were matte black plastic on the first gen.

There was only 1 generation of the Honda Element. That change was just a refresh.

The first time I saw a Honda Element in person, I was still in Mexico City. It was Texas-plated the Element was not sold there. I remember the people in traffic looking at it also and I was with my cousins and they were wondering why Honda would make a car so square.

Actually, the 1948 Tucker Torpedo was the first car I know of to offer seat belts....but only 51 cars were produced.

Anyhow, nope, it's not a Studebaker, or a Tucker....... Guess again.
