Yep, you pretty much got it, BigSwede. It's actually a Sterling 825, which was a cross between a Rover and a Honda/Acura legend, using a British body/interior with Honda drivetrain and running-gear. Though ultimately not successful, the Sterling nameplate, like that of Lincoln-Mercury's Merkur, was marketed for a few years here in the U.S....it may not have been marketed where you are in Sweden.

I agree with your nice-interior comment...back then, the Brits seemed to have a knack for doing classy cabins. Still do with Rolls and Bentley, but that's about it.

Haven't seen one in ages.
I imagine they may have been hard to get parts for over here when used with some miles on them.
Plus, finding someone to work on them may have been a challenge but I don't know this to be true, just a guess.

When my wife worked for Avis we went to collect a brand new Rover 800 Stirling for her boss. It was a nice car but the Honda 2.5 litre V6 was gutless, developing too little torque, and requiring to be the revved far too much to make good progress. It was also a bit narrow, a consequence of the Honda platform being designed to meet Japanese taxation laws. Once they put the 2.7 litre engine in it was a much better car and the fastback version that came out later meant it finally became the car it should have been.

1982 Toyota Starlet. Super fun car to modify for more power.

I had 1985 Merkur XR4Ti. I believe this was the first model year for it in the U.S. It wasn't sold here too long as sales dropped off quickly.

Yepp you´re on the right track here; the Alfa Romeo Alfetta (Alfetta = "small Alfa" in italian) came along in 1972 ( same as me) first the Alfetta was a 4 door saloon ("berlina"), in 1974 a sleek 2 door 4 seater Coupé came along based on the Alfetta trans-axle layout, named Alfetta GT (Sprint Veloce in US 1978-1979) and over the years it became a model of its own; The Alfa Romeo GTV , and in 1980 they installed the "Busso-V6" in it a the legendary "turbo-killer" Alfa GTV (GTV6 in US) was born...
Wonderful song from that V6 engine when combined with better headers and exhaust systems going into a tunnel.....
