I just put the year sticker over the last one, or I did on the old plates (They're new this year).

Mike is correct, they are pretty hard to get off there. Every freaking year I have to have someone peel the thing OFF the paper it comes with just to go put it ON my vehicles, because I can't remove it from the papers without it screwing up the tag.

Continuing the discussion of plate stickers. So I just got back from Albany to the new stickers for the Mercedes waiting for me. Mercedes has a really crappy plastic bracket on the rear you screw the plate to, it doesnt screw into the trunklid. Well, when I installed the plate when the car was new with the plate frame I was afraid the screws had stripped out the plastic plate bracket, and I was right. The plate is impossible to remove. I have a clear plexi cover on the plate behind the frame so I have to remove it to put the new sticker on the plate.

Luckily, I got a dremel for christmas. I just ordered a new plate bracket and a new plate frame and when they come I will cut the old screws off with the dremel, replace the bracket and then replace the plate. Huge PITA.

The bracket I ordered is metal, so hopefully I wont have this problem again

This is the plastic bracket from Google, this guy clearly had the same problem:

This is the one I ordered:

A 100K+ car and you get a cheap flimsy plastic bracket like that?

Well, I guess considering the money they put into the engineering of this car's ride/suspension/comfort/safety-features, they had to pinch pennies somewhere to compensate.

Yeah, Mercedes used to use a metal bracket like the replacement I ordered, crappy that they went to plastic...

Long drive today back from Albany:

I just wonder if German-spec S-Class cars also get the same bracket. At the speeds that these cars are capable of cruising at on the Autobahns, the air-pressure generated by those speeds, even with an aero-styled front end, would likely rip the bracket right off the car's bumper.

23 MPG average, even on a long trip, is not bad for a car the size of the S-Class with a big V8. I take it that the engine has some cylinder-deactivation features at cruise like the 3.6L V6 in my Lacrosse did?

Yeah I don't know. I doubt it would rip off, its on there with 4 bolts and then the plate is on the bracket with 4 bolts...

That picture is the Pacifica, the S Class gets way better mileage than that, this was my last long trip in the S Class:

It does have cylinder deactivation but only in Eco mode, so thats all 8 the whole time.

23.3 for the Pacifica isn't bad, I actually commented to my wife I always forget how much better my car is on gas, had to stop to get gas each leg of this trip, it only has ~400 miles of highway range where my S560 will do 600. That was also running 85-90 a lot of the way, all 4 of us and loaded. The PA/NY highways are FAST. That picture of the S560 is just me, cruise set to 80.

I wish I could have brought the S560 on this trip, we just have too much stuff for all 4 of us to travel in it...

Oops...my bad. Sorry about that. As many vehicles as I have looked at and test-driven (including a couple of Pacificas), I should have noticed that....although recent health issues in my leg have prevented some of my former activity.

One thing, of course, that impacts on the Pacifica's mileage is not only its weight but the taller, less-aero stance, which causes more wind-resistance.

No worries lol...sorry to hear about your leg!

For sure, and in the Pacifica wind noise absolutely sets in around 80 MPH...

That area is a zero pressure zone on his car, the S and other cars like it have exceptionally low drag at speed. If you are going 70+ in a rainstorm the rain never touches the cars sides or back and you can see the air vortex/boundary layer hovering 1/2 inch over the body.

My LS430 is getting a $500 interior detail as I type. It’s so bad he said it will take 6-7 hours instead of 4 lol and raised the price by $100. It’s my xmas gift from my spouse, I can’t WAIT to see this car when it’s done.

This is the thing about these new German. Their MPG is just way better than Lexus similar size/type vehicle. I'm glad my wife never makes me to get a Van. While not the same, SUVs can do most utilities and look/drive better. Maybe it's time you replaced one of them with the GLE/S.

I gotta say though, as much as the car enthusiast in me dislikes that van, its impossible to ignore the utility. Its just huge inside, and you can just keep piling stuff in it and you never have blocked views out of the windows, etc. It rides nice and is reasonably quiet, it scuttled along at 90MPH like a champ. It makes it hard for me to go spend twice as much money on a GLS when my wife really doesn't care and it would have LESS utility...

My main issue with it on a long trip is the thin armrests cut circulation off in my right hand and it goes numb...but the seats are comfortable, the seating position is good, it has a nice audio system, other than "its not cool", theres not much to dislike... I wish it was AWD and I really miss lane centering when I drive it.

Guy came today and touched up/buffed,wetsanded the van where my wife bumped into that Tahoe last month. Turned out pretty good for $300, not perfect for sure. He also touched up all the rock chips on the hood....

The damage:

The repair:

That top pic looks like maybe bumper had a dent.
Bottom pic it's gone.

Maybe an optial illusion?

Soooo. he showed up late and charged $300 for that?
I mean, it looks ok, but $300?
(rhetorical questions)
If you had a car dealer friend who has connections I'm thinking you could've gotten your whole bumper resprayed like new- on site.

PS- I'm not doing jack on my car today, I'll just be getting small stuff done and hanging out at Club Lexus!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

If you haven't done so, you should drive a Pinnacle PHEV. It's heavier and so rides better. The big console armrest is great. The gas mileage is also much better. I do like your dashboard better though (the lack of a tach in mine just sucks)!
