Accord has always been known as a driver's car underneath the family sedan camo. Now it's neutered with this hybrid crap.

It's not like the old 2.0t got bad MPG. They also ripped the manual transmission away from the 1.6 for a CVT.

Cars just suck now.
I stick by vast, vast. These cars are not enthusiast cars, they are driven by people who have no kind of idea what engine is in their car, they want a spacious reliable car that gets great fuel economy and the Accord fits that bill well. A manual? They can’t sell Porsches with manuals, who wants a manual in an Accord? Nobody.

Cars don’t suck now. You were never going to buy an Accord anyways lol. It’s not designed for us.

I can count in two hands people I know who truly do not care about MPG, most REALLY care about what it costs them above all else.....just like most things in life. The ones I know who don't care have well over 300k income or multiple cars and one of those is invariably "great" on gas.

I'm also that way, I don't care about the cost since it's worth feeding them....but I hate the fact my Jeep gets 13. I would trade it in a second for an otherwise identical car with a 4cyl hybrid engine with 30+ provided that it's as easy to just ignore/never service. I don't care I would be losing my "large" I-6 since I just need the engine to move the car

That's true, but if I were looking for a great mainstream sedan it would be on my short list until now with this slow hybrid setup. We talked about a new Accord once when it was a "hey for the price of a used LX we could buy a brand new fully loaded Accord". We never seriously considered it but it did get mentioned by me once.

Honda doesn’t survive on “we mentioned it once” lol

Part of this is they have to make a case for the sedan. What is the selling proposition for keeping a buyer in a sedan vs a crossover? Insane fuel economy is one…

Three things have essentially led to the demise of conventional three-pedal manual transmissions. One is modern traffic congestion....too much shifting. Two is the increasing efficiency of automatic transmissions, which give the same or better mileage than manuals. Three (and, to an extent, I'm now a part of this myself), is aging arms, legs, and knees on much of the Baby-Boomer population that are simply no longer in condition to be constantly rowing our own gears.

This. It SUCKS getting caught in freak traffic when it's supposed to be a nice clear drive in a fast car, it becomes 20-30 min of rage waiting to crawl past the congestion.

Plz add me to the list.
I spend more a month on potato chips cuz I drive very few miles. lol

Maybe 50 miles a week tops, so MPG is only a big deal to me cuz it lets me know if my car is tuned properly but not really caring about fuel cost.

Yeah, Honda doesn't make any money off me either.
I bought a couple used ones over 20 years ago.

Honda Accord and a Honda Prelude.
>> The Prelude was an awesome car!

Ya'll are making me sad...
J/K but really, it's always nice to have something in the fleet with a stick shift just for fun dammit!

Truck or car, doesn't matter.... lol

When an appropriate cruising speed is reached, a clutch engages direct drive from the engine to the wheels. There is no gearbox or CVT that can vary the effective gear ratio between the engine and the drive wheels. They're either driven at (engine rpm x final drive ratio) or they aren't connected at all.

Kind of an interesting take on a Hybird IMO. Operates much more like a BEV with a range extender (ala BMW i3/i8 or Chevy Volt) than like a typical hybrid. It just lacks a charging port.
That was awesome post, thank you for the info.

You don't buy new cars either. What they care about is what people who buy their cars care about. Really none of us here are Accord consumers, its hard for us to understand just like its hard for my buddy who drove Accords for decades until I finally got him into a CPO Lexus ES why I would spend what I spend on a car.

IMO it's not because they don't want to, it's more because they have other things on their minds to think about. No shifting, less thinking. They can shift somewhere else when their mind is free to shift. Lol. And they have choices.

That's why traffic assist sells.

The Accord, when it was first introduced to the market in 1976, mesmerized the American public with its excellent overall build-quality, notwithstanding the fact that the engine sometimes would barely warm up or run at all with the overly-lean carburator and with front fenders that were highly susceptible to rust and holes....Honda replaced many of those fenders under warranty. But, in general, it became a cult-car, people loved it, and were willing to line up and pay well over list at the dealerships to get one, particularly during the 1980s import-car quotas, before they were built in Marysville, OH. In the early-to-mid 1980s, of course, there Toyota Camry became its first serious competitor.

I myself thought the early-1990s Accords were easily the best ones.....they came off the assembly line, and felt and drove, like they were carved from a block of solid granite...they were THAT well-built.

ICE cars catch on fire all the time though not nearly as much as years ago, the problem is with EVs the fires are difficult to extinguish.
