i did not forget lol

the G-wagen is very special, it has its own dedicated production line in austria where it's exclusively been built since launch... they're all 'hand-built' and i'm pretty sure i've read it takes like 11 days to make one, or at least at some point it did

Yep, truly special and the top of the class. I am torn since while I want one and will have one I also just can't justify using it as intended due to the crazy prices.

Every time I damage it I would just see dollar signs floating off it! What I really want is one that is cheap like a land cruiser so I can use it without fear.

How hard do you plan to off road it?

Careful with the front chin because the intercoolers are kind of low. I’m not sure if the exhaust still is off to the side but that’s also a complaint with off roading, but easily fixable.

I’d love to drive a G in some mud. They are special vehicles.

Uh I tend to foot to the floor my Jeep in 4-low on the redline up a 30* hill that has around 6-10 inches of mud and trees fallen onto it.....

Plus there are two creeks, lots of smaller trees and brush I drive though on the way up/down etc.

I would love to use a G in the same way, the version I want is the V12 or a diesel V6. Part of me wants the practical side of the diesel but if I'm not going to assign it the job of being my truck I'll get the V12.

Yeah. V12 is unbelievably special.

.
Love hearing stories like these. Imagine that—owners using off road vehicles’ capabilities! I love leaving the pavement.

. They had a Rivian R1S (green) so I walked over to take a look. Really nice layout and interior has a cool feel to it - like a combo of luxury but rugged, have to say I'm impressed. 2022 model with 200 miles and they had it priced at $105k - owner said people are flipping them for profits.

They also had a nice new Escalade there - and based on my recent experience of loving a new Suburban during a rental I asked how much it was. $199k - it's the V series. I had no idea a V series even existed, but left scratching my head at who would pay $200k for an Escalade. I'm sure it'll sell though!
I am a little surprised they went with this style of tailgate. Land Cruiser was the last to do it this way. I know the Land Cruiser owners really like the style of tailgate, it is unusual as most would prefer the full tailgate up.

Clamshell tailgate are always a plus. I sit on mine while gas pumps, one of the million things you can use it for. BMW X7 has one too.

Interesting. How long does it take you to pump gas? I'm paranoid like ****. I always look around when I pump except when at Costco. I actually lock my car too because I'm afraid some dude would sneak in on the other side while I'm pumping. Lol. It's a nice spot to sit when out camping/fishing for sure.

5 mins or so? Keep in mind I've had multiple back surgeries. It's just convenient it's right there to sit on.

Lol go find the thread I started about leaving your car running while refueling for entertainment, I definitely got my azz beat in the poll I made! Hah.

Yeah. Was just a little surprised that they did that. Definitely pros with having it. At the same time, cons are that is a longer reach to retrieve cargo. And if you come from a traditional lift up hatch, it would be different. I would prefer the clamshell design if I had to choose. Didn’t realize the X7 had the clamshell as well

The X5 has the tailgate/clamshell as well. Personally, not for me, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker either way. I often sit on the back of the Highlander with its lift-up hatch and that works well too. I don't really care for the long reach that the tailgate forces.

I don’t care either way but wife definitely likes for grocery purpose. I also keep my kids sports stuff there so it definitely helps.

At least on LX570, clamshell design "reach" it creates is minimal. Even C&D bytched about it, how they got rid of it with new LX600.

The Land Rover Discovery 5 also has a semi split tailgate. It’s a little different than the old one but it works. I have had a full tailgate, split tailgate and even the barn door. All of them have pluses and minuses but at the end of the day I wouldn’t make a decision on what type of tailgate one has. Heck I even loved the barn door and most people don’t like them but it was so easy to open and close that I really liked it.
