Already seeing stuff like this... Don't shoot the messenger, I have no interest in Tacoma or anything in that class.

I suppose I hope people don’t think I mean this specific car, my car, but car people will absolutely get it. It looks even better than I imagined it would.

Haha thats awesome.

Is it just me or did somebody pressure wash "Hi" into your driveway?

Yep. For several reasons, power windows are not among the more reliable devices on vehicles. And, when the doors are opened in rainy weather, raindrops can get down inside tiny cracks in the door-switches on the armrests and short out or corrode the electrics. But we're pretty much stuck with them today. I can't remember the last time I saw a traditional hand-crank for any new vehicle window.....it might (?) have been on the Mitsubishi Mirage.

Vehicle manufacturers used to provide small emergency hand-cranks for malfunctioning electric sunroofs....you don't see that any more, either.

319k miles and 24 years lol! I think it did okay, and it was the cable that went not the motor funny enough....a manual one would have died as well.

The manual sunroof thing is very cool, my 190E has it.

yeah. I agree. I have like 40 combined years on my 4 cars. 400K. Splashing off water getting into the door and shorting out a motor. Not sure I agree it’s an issue

It probably won't be an issue if you take precautions to keep it from happening or minimizing it. I often take a cloth and hold it over the power-window/mirror switches if I open the door in the rain. It helps.

In other news I'm itching for another Mercedes, maybe this one:

I always found that W212 E-Class just beautiful, it was always very well regarded, and from what I'm gathering not too bad reliability-wise. We'll see. I think they ironed the kinks out of that fire-breathing NA 5.5 by then.

Spouse wants the coupe but I insist on the sedan just for the hood ornament to look at constantly as I drive, and I'm not budging.

Default Farewell

Sold the 02 LS430 today, very bittersweet since it was first flagship/car I've ever owned. Sold it for more than I paid but overall it was simply a break even type deal. It was a very good 4 years of ownership for sure though!

Be careful with that V8, it has a major issue with the timing chain failing.

Forget it then, lol, and thanks for the advice. Not taking any huge gambles. But yes Margate, Mercedes does pull on you, lol. Each time I just take off in my SL it's blissful, you can feel the passion in the engineering. The engine and transmission feel so good it's just ridiculous. I can't imagine driving an SC430 is even 1/4 as fun as this is, as nice as those are.

I mean... i f you like it, just get it and do the chains. It's practically a rite of passage / "new car service" over here - at least when it comes to cars that snap their timing drive. These in particular - I absolutely adore the looks, the drivetrains left me wanting a bit (I guess the hybrid bug has bitten me, and I can't really justify an e63 as a daily ). Mandatory scare about rear subframe rot, may or may not be an issue

Maaaybe compare the 4matic to a RWD. Not a fan of how some options are not available on AWD mercs, but those options are mostly S-class (& relatives)-exclusive anyways*.
*by most I actually mean the active hydraulic suspension

On another topic, has anybody experienced this:
L-SB-0060-12 Roof Panel Pop Noise(NHTSA link)

I had this in mine (yes, 3rd gen), took the headliner out for the third time yesterday and basically replaced all the nuts (all M6) with elongated versions + washers... and added rubber backing (& felt in some places) everywhere where theoretically metal can hit metal in the event of severe flex making something move. Diagnosis was quite ridiculous since the noise was somehow amplified by the trim and sounded like something near the rear axle was snapping apart >_< (that and the fact that it was an extremely rare occurrence). After I figured out what it was, I found out the... "correct" terminology and it appears that quite a few cars (particular cars, not model-specific in general) with... articulated roofs... have this.
