I just got back from my trip to WV for Memorial Day, another great drive in the S560. Beautiful weather on the way down there, poured rain all the way back. Got to do some more light offroading in it lol. Just a fabulous road car, I looked down on I-64 at one point and without noticing it I was doing 115 MPH lol.

The question is, hit something at a small offset and how well does it do? Seeing that basically no cars designed before that test was created passed it, my guess is not well. A straight hit in the back like that is actually pretty easy for the car to absorb,

He has both and you don't...just sayin

That is true, but thats only one facet of the appeal of a car. The 460 has a better ride/handling balance, its more powerful while getting similar fuel economy, its much better looking inside and out IMO, it has much better and more modern tech even in the oldest ones, and its quieter at speed...having had both would I give up all of that for the more refined feel of the UZ vs UR V8? Not for a second.

The LS430 still is an amazing car but its been long outclassed by many cars, including the LS460.

This debate is just endless. However 2007 was the year the most LSs were sold. I see 5-7 LS430s for every 460 I see. That says something.

Looks are subjective and I don’t care about fancy tech minus maybe 2 things. 430 is a silkier car, 460 may be faster but feels weaker down below 2000RPM because the torque peak is higher.

If I thought 460 was better than 430 I’d have one, like I said there’s a reason I never upgraded, because it wasn’t an upgrade to me. They weren’t as nice inside, the experiences I’ve had. We can agree to disagree.

We're not talking about fancy tech...we're talking about bluetooth audio lol. Seeing 5-7 LS430s for every 460 you see says nothing, I hardly ever see an LS430 here, but I see LS460s all the time. Older cars are more common where you are than where I am. I see maybe 1 or 2 LS430s a month and I see at least 1 or 2 LS460s a day. You also have the perceptive bias we have discussed before (which we all have).

The LS430 was an incredible car in its time, but really its lasting claim to fame is reliability...if looked after they last a really long time. LS460s do too they just need more looking after, like a german car. IMO the 430 is just too old today to be a daily driver, I want more technology in a car than it provides. LS460 provides that technology so to me thats just a much more compelling car. If I were getting something for a nostalgic garage queen, I would fine a 98-00 LS400.

Just remember, Striker got banned from the 4LS forums for dragging on the 460s all the time...and look what he is saying now that he has both lol. You gotta give the 460 some respect here.

I will say how continually impressed I am with Mercedes reliability in the W222...they're getting pretty old now, and the forums remain pretty free from common issues and failures...I have a feeling this car is going to wind up being one of those great cars you look back on...

The LS460 at 2000rpm has 100 more TQ than the 460 and better gear ratios as well, it's just so much smoother in delivery it doesn't feel a dramatic.

You need to drive a 460 for a week, it really takes more than a quick drive to really understand and enjoy one. My wife drove the 430 for 60k miles up till a few days ago when she switched to the 460 post sale of the 430. The first day was a complaint storm of stuff that was "worse" and how she missed it, now she realizes just how superior the 460 after a few days of driving one. Even today she drove up the drive where me and dad were washing the Audis and said "damn I love this car"

She never once said that about the 430

It does take time to appreciate the differences and ways in which the 460 is better, I agree. It also takes that time to appreciate those things about the S Class. I like my S Class more the longer I have it, and I felt the same way about the 460. If the 460 hadn't been hit, I probably would still have it.

I seriously may keep this S560. There just isn't anything I like more. The S580 is fine, and I'm sure I would be happy with it but I don't *want* it over my 560. Its how I felt about the 460L, the only thing I liked more was an S560...When I had the 430 though and I saw the 460, that was immediately what I wanted lol.

So what I may do is buy the 560 out and keep it a while and splurge on something like a GLS450 for the family and use that for the tax shelter.

Hey now I was never banned! People just didn't like some of the quality complaints I made, problem is that after living with a 460 the positives vastly outweigh the cons. Plus the fact of the matter is the 460 just outright outclasses the 430 due to the crazy high spec options the 430 just never got.

You can't tell me with a straight face that a 430 has ANYTHING on a LS600hL ultra. Utterly outclassed and out smoothed to an insane degree.

Still. The 430 will always be the car that got me into luxury cars, it will always hold a very special place in my heart even if my 02 has been sold now. I'll have my wife write a post on here about her direct thoughts on 430/460 as someone who disliked cars and never really was into them.....

Until I bought the 460. That car awakened her inner car person, the 430 never did.

Lol okay okay okay. None of us are going to change our minds lol.

I like the 460, the late ones.

I would happily drive a 460 around for a week to get a better feel.

SW I would probably buy your car too when lease is up.

We are thinking of leasing something new for giggles but I imagine the lease prices have skyrocketed, and I agree the W222 is special.

I would not lease anything right now if you don’t have to, better times are coming. High rates and still high relative prices make leasing not a great thing right now.

What would you replace with a lease?

Nothing. The other cars are paid for. Just if there’s ever some crazy deal on a car we both like we may lease something new, someday. But now lease rates are high.

I would lease a Tesla for sure if I could get a good enough deal.

High prices, though, may (?) also bump up the projected residual-values a few years down the road, which could lower monthly lease-payments.

What is that odd hangar-shaped device on the back of the driver's seat headrest? Looks like something that came from the dry-cleaners LOL.

No, the banks aren’t going to take those chances. That’s the problem with markups and the lack of being able to negotiate on price, the residual is a % of the MSRP, so an ADM explodes the lease payment because you essentially just divide it by the number of payments since it isn’t residualized. $15,000 ADM adds $417 a month to the lease payment.

LOL, it’s a jacket hanger for my sportcoat/suit coat.
