Yeah that’s the worst tire life I have ever had on a car, terrible. I would replace them with something else but I hate to scrap the rears.

 

I've driven that generation of A Class, I had one for a while as a loaner when my Mercedes was getting serviced back in Europe. It was pretty innovative for its time, it was all about delivering a lot of interior room relative to exterior dimensions. It was actually a neat little car.

 

I think I might have you beat on that one. The stock Goodyear Invicta tires on my '95 Celica were howling so bad at only 14K miles that I dumped them for a set of Goodyear Regattas that were much quieter...and lasted as long as I owned that vehicle. For some reason, Toyota just put crap tires on what was otherwise a nice car.

 

I typically don’t keep the same tires on the car that the OEM uses. Typically OEM tires are softer (so they don’t last as long), the performance is mediocre, and they are more expensive. I usually find a better tire for cheaper that lasts longer and has better performance when I need to replace them.

The one exception is my X7, there are literally two OEM options for the 22” tires and only offer summer tires and that’s it so you are stuck paying a lot for them.

 

I've chosen to replace tires because I don't like them, but they weren't worn out like that. I replaced my runflats with 350 miles on them, and the OEM tires on my LS460L because they were terrible.

Same, replacing the OEM tires is always a huge upgrade.

 

Another thing I wanted to point out is that for whatever reason I keep getting nails in my tires and historically I never really have. I buy my tires from Tirerack and it comes with roadhazard which I unfortunately had to use a bunch of times but recently I got a nail near the sidewall on my Model S rear tire that had 25k miles on them so I had to replace both rear tires. The cost of these tires went up in price from $385 to $433. I was shocked when I got my reimbursement check for the full $433 I paid for the new tire without any proration. Seriously impressed with them as I have always been.

 

Really? Wow. Any construction around you? Neighbors getting new roofs, etc? TireRack really is a great company.

 

No, all of my neighbors had their roofs replaced a while ago although this time it was a roofing nail. Even when I had my M340 a couple years ago I had taken the tire off and found two nails in the one tire and they were tiny nails almost like staple sized.

What I found annoying this year is last summer I had a nail in the rear tire of my X7 (not a roof nail) and I had it patched. Then I took the wheels off and put on my winter tires/wheels and stored the summer wheels/tires until this March. Well I had a slow leak in the rear tire so I had the tire taken off and couldn’t find the nail. So remounted and we sprayed soapy water on and it was leaking from the patch and you can’t fix a bad patch. So I had to spend $1,200 on two new rear tires a couple months ago for tires that easily had 50% left.

 

Ugh, that’s super annoying

 

What was super annoying is that I had to buy all of these tires for the S and X7 within two days of each other but at least I got $433 back for the one tire.

 

ha, i've had worse. i think the nitto performance tires i had on my gs lasted 10k before they made more noise than a classroom of unruly kids.

not always. lc500 comes with bridgestone, michelin, dunlop or maybe one other tire as 'oem' so they vary a bit. mine came with dunlops and they ride fine but aren't the quietest on bad surfaces, but then they are 21" low profile run flats.

many go to non-runflats at replacement, but i'm still debating that for when the time comes. i'm still under 7k mi.

 

You will see a big improvement on non runflats. Ditching my run flats was huge.
