I'm not sure what happens if you activate the car with the phone inside and then move the phone outside of the car, I can try it out. Maybe it does allow you to drive until you open the door - it could be a safety feature in the event your phone battery dies and can't be recharged that the car wouldn't stop driving. I'll try it and report back.
That's kind of crazy. I know they probably don't want to get dinged and all but why? Just go off hour or park away from people to reduce the chance of getting hit. The chance is almost the same if you go some where else. But maybe that's what they tell you and not why they do it. I had a friend who bought a new runner. Then bought a new neon. He kept the runner at home for special occasion and used the neon most of the time... to save on gas/mileage. I'm sure he did his math but what saving is there? An extra car also means extra insurance and maintenance. Not to mention they drive significantly different.

But, he may be planning to keep the nice car for a keeper and the other car is now just a throw away beater aka expendable Lol

The giggles about my buddys Chevy Spark rental keep on coming. He was driving home today and it came a huge downpour, so he turned on the wipers to high. Both wiper arms immediately flew off never to be seen again lol

Mind sorta blown....
Um, I'm in San Francisco and have been everywhere today and there are no more Teslas than at home.... in West Knoxville, Tennessee, I mean not really. I noticed that today, kinda crazy.

It's just so much easier vs having to pull something out of the garage/working about fuel dilution/operating temp on such on short drive. Plus the real perk is you can park RIGHT by the doors vs all the way in the back lol!

ha, that's funny... still, he sure will appreciate his truck when he gets it back!
not only looks stupid, but one of the reasons to have a cuv like that is easy entry/exit and less back bending when putting stuff in the back, etc. not now!
well my santa fe isn't as bad as a purple spark but it's a great contrast with the lc500.

Oh yes. There are MANY houses here that keep an old beater to go to the local stores on my street alone and I know that's the case due to talking to everyone. Mostly it's the other car guys/people with high end cars since we all have "extra" cars/don't like using our nice ones for a literal 3.4 mile drive

This is exactly the "explanation" when I asked MB rep why they don't have phone key. Then when I asked what about plastic key, he went blank for a minute then said... someone could steal it and steal your car. BMW requires you to place it on NFC pad to start the car. Once it's on, you can take it off. I'm glad they do it this way because their NFC/charging pad is crazy. It can over heat the phone fairly quickly.
