Get A 12 cyl if you actually care about smooth, that's the only configuration that also has instant response at low rpm. A 6 is not smooth compared to an 8 and not even in the discussion vs actual luxury products

A 4 is "eh" even with a turbo, when you catch it off boost it feels BAD. It's not like catching your TTV8 or mine off boost, those are annoying but 4s are just plain unpleasant

The 2GR has many many issues, oil cooler line failure, VVT oil line failure, VTT actuator rattle, timing cover leak etc....I have replaced three of those engines from oil cooler line failure and just caught my mother in laws car before it died from that issue as well. My friend has an ES350 and he usually revs it up to 4500 rpm to get it to feel like his supercharged V8 does at 2200 so it's not at all what I would consider a smooth/powerful engine.
It's adequate, that's it and better than it's contemporary rivals in 2007 and hilariously inferior today.

You drive way harder than I do. It would never be caught off boost, and my wife would be driving it 90% if the time

My wife has no idea how many cylinders our car has.
Thought has never crossed her mind. Lol
But I do care and agree, if it's the right engine for the car it's ok.
My Porsche had a Turbo 4 and my Roadster had an inline 6 and I liked them both.
For a full size truck, no thanks, needs to be 350CI or more.

The IS350 is a very slow car and the Emria is forced induction and STILL gets outrun by cars 60k cheaper but that's not the point of one of those so it's okay.

The main reason why Lexus has stuck to those old engines is they don’t want to develop newer more modern 8 or 6 cyl engines, they’re focused on hybrids and now EVs and we will never see another V8 or V6 from Toyota or Lexus.

Incorrect, Lexus used the NA V8 for the way they sound in the LC 500, GS F, RC F, and IS 500. They sound amazing!!! I would know. We have had a GS F and M550i. I know the difference in sound and feel of a AWD turbo V8 vs a NA V8 in a performance vehicle. Do you?

obviously if it were turbo'd the car would be quicker but i'm perfectly happy with its 4.4 0-60

Sounds like you need to get your revs up Bit. It's pretty quiet at low rpm. We've had the LC 500, GS F, RC F, IS 350 F Sport. The LC 500 exhaust makes it louder, but the engine itself sounds better than the turbo V8's we've had. Most of the reviews also talk about the great sounding noise of these engines vs. turbos. Do you think it would sound the same as a turbo?
