it's kind of impressive how little supercharger whine you can hear inside though... with the windows down you can hear it kick in at lower speeds but if you fit an aftermarket intake it sounds like the SLR mclaren haha
Love it. I love the exhaust note when they tune the M113 for fun. It's pure muscle-car. At least mine is, the V8 noise is more intense the higher you rev it. Our cars sound the exact same minus the S/C.

Rolls Royce Spectre, BMW i7, Mercedes EQS which is also shortly coming out in Maybach spec, Porsche Taycan, Audi e-Tron GT, Lucid Air. Proper high end EVs are here and coming.

As to the argument of cost how much was that EV of yours again? Total cost of ownership will be lower for me, period.
Only because you buy heavily depreciated and used. Compared to a new ICE car of the same price category his Ioniq 5 will be much cheaper to drive.

I gotta say, EV mode in the Pacifica makes neither me or my wife want an engine...

You don't even have air suspension. It's just a commodity car with a golf cart power unit.

Lots of conflicting info here. You can't compare TCO of buying older used cars to a new car, regardless of EV or not. Find a car that's the same price as an EV and compare TCO and the EV wins every single time. And if you're worried about TCO of his Hyunday EV, not sure I understand bringing up a Bentley EV which will be somewhere in the $200k range. You wouldn't spend that much in gas in 50+ years. And to Steve's point, there are already luxury EV's with more coming. If price is no issue, you want luxury, and you're truly focused on TCO, go buy one.

the future is now. but it ain't cheap (except low running costs).

exactly.

definitely appealing.

wasn't implying you should have my car instead of yours. i don't want yours. you don't want mine. and they're certainly not remotely similar.

because you buy 10yr old flagships i guess it will be probably 15 years then at least.

I'm not stepping down to common cars
not too snobby then.

maybe so but that's also because you do the maintenance. an average person buying a 10 yr old w12 a8 would be soaked in repair costs in short order.

he'll be waiting a long time to buy a 10 yr old ev 'flagship' which will already be completely out of date.

ha, you see what you want to see. you seem to think i was anti-ev, which was NEVER the case. i had some issues with tesla, and some issues with the absurd 'fandom' obsequiousness. i also said many times i'd have an ev at some point and most likely one to replace the suv i had until recently.

That's enough EV vs. ICE commentary

I thought this was a really interesting picture, how truck cabs have gotten Longer and beds have gotten shorter.

The 90s truck looks like the best size vs space design.

That's because nobody wants to ride in the back anymore.

Not if you want to be able to haul people, those trucks had really small backseats.

in the 70s most were used for real work (hauling, towing, commercial use).
now most are poser vehicles, doing none of those things most of the time.
car companies marketed the 'image' (tough, outdoorsy, adventure) even though most trucks do none of that.

My stable has always been a truck + car + motorcycle + and usually a boat.

I have never owned anything but a long bed truck and never thought about it. Lol

I've downsized as I got older to just a small suv but I still won't buy a short bed truck.

Why not just go SUV if you need a tiny bed to put stuff from walmart or lowes once in a while?

At least that's my thinking anyway, for now... lol

way too rational.

how am i going to mount a big flagpole in an suv?

and giant poser tires don't look good on that fwd-based crossover.

Quite a bit of horsepower in that stable my friend. Even that boat might pack for some horsepower.

a truck is real ruggedness. A real truck that is, one with a frame

I don’t agree with the concept of a “poser vehicle”. Every one of us who drives anything but an economy car has a “poser vehicle”, a vehicle that is designed for way more than we use it for.

I rode with a coworker earlier this week who had a brand new Pacifica as a rental. It wasn't hybrid, but it was absolutely brand new (200 miles). It rode incredibly well, couldn't believe how smooth it felt over bumps, etc. I'd imagine the EV mode mixed with that cushy ride would be pretty awesome.
