You can make a 6.2 nice and quiet. Used already in the S class but quiet wasn’t the idea, but it’s LC500/IS500 V8 old that engine too can be made to be quiet and refined …. The larger size would make it an absolute delight. No issues with a smaller displacement V8, but you already said you owned nothing larger than a 4.6. When you one day downsize to a 6, you’ll understand why so many of us hate smaller turbo engines.

The power delivery is different. I would rather have the engine I have than the 5.0 Lexus V8 for sure. Nothing against that engine it’s just not as relaxed and doesn’t have the same effortless low end power.

I won’t be downsizing to a 6, I’ll go EV.

Most people would. So would I The 5.0 is ancient and is from yesteryear. Naturally aspirated is not the issue with the Toyota 5.0, it’s the age. It is too bad MB disconnect the 4.7/5.5 V8s

mid 2000s mercedes seriously went crazy lol... there was a time when the S, CL, E, CLS, G, and SL-classes could all be equipped with an M113K! that was also when the V12 biturbo first became available as well

the SLR as well had a dry sump version of the M113, and even the super rare grey market CLK DTM

I wouldn't mind seeing Ford move from V6 to I6 engines for the ecoboosts.

This thing is quick!
BMW's in line 6 turbo motor and ZF 8 speed combination is legendary. It even gets decent gas mileage considering the performance.

Having had both, I just prefer turbocharged to NA, at least in a V8.

since we're on the topic of downsized engines, here's a post from a few hours ago lmao

https://v.redd.it/pytqacsngwyb1

whether replacing the C63s V8 with an I4 hybrid is the right move or not isn't for me to say... but idk how mercedes execs didn't anticipate such non stop backlash (or maybe just didn't care)

Doubt it, the 6.2 is great and sounds amazing but you can't beat the hot V engines for actual output.

The older 4.7/5.5TT sure but not the 4.0 engines, plus the 6.2 is also a fragile engine in terms of things breaking. Head fastener pullout, chains, valves etc......

If in picking a stock Mercedes engine it's gonna be a 4.0 or the V12

are we talking strictly stock engines? from my understanding the hot v engine is more limited in tuning potential since there's less space for upgrades

Oh not at all, the hot V is a monster. 1000+ HP capable on stock bottom end in the AMGs, totally different class the 6.3 engines.

Stock to stock I would pick the 6.3 for a track type car and for all other situations but for the street I prefer the AMG 4.0 over all others. It's just a hammer you can't beat unless you use the BMW/Audi hot-V engines.

I love my W12 to actually drive and enjoy in all types of driving but my 4.0 is a sub 10 sec car on E40 fuel. Speed wise you will not beat a hot V engine with an NA engine unless you are on a track or the turbo engine is heat soaked. Even then you better have a really good NA engine like a V10/12 class option

The power delivery your engine and the other hot Vs is emulating is a 12 cyl engine. That's why you like it so much, try a JLR 5.0 super engine perhaps? It feels exactly like a 12

oh damn cool to know... AMG has done stuff in the past few years i can still be excited about!

the hot v stuff is obviously faster than n/a but i was under the impression the M157 5.5tt still had more to gain, but clearly the M177 can take more boost
