Me too. 100k on a car in general is nothing.

it was bought by some other 'youtubers' who had it up to 450k miles as of like a year ago but haven't seen updates since
So, WTF though. Why did MB go from the M113 which is a brick shyyythouse to such an unreliable predecessor? You’ve warned me about M273, I’ve heard all the sprocket stories. Apparently that engine can get totaled by some $2 part.

What gives??? I have no doubts M113 is a several hundred thousand mile motor. But M273 is junk….

successor you mean? lol

for a start the M273 is much more complex, but i think toward the end of its run it got fairly more reliable... however i'd guess that emissions and whatnot forced mercedes to implement more tech that resulted in more failure points

I mean, M273 it's DOHC with VVT and direct injection.... that's not THAT complex. Plenty of displacement, should be at least as under stressed as M113. 5.5 liters is a big V8 as you know.

Truly sad if that's true, all that crap ruins everything.

I drove that SL550 and gunned it through second gear and was SHOCKED at the pickup from that 5.5.. I only had 5 seconds with the car, unfortunately.

Curious to see what the B58's look like as they get more and more miles on em. I don't think they've been out long enough to have a ton of 200k mile examples around.

Oh Lordy that's barely broken in.

I just don't know how nervous I'd be with an Ecoboost at 106k. I sure wouldn't buy one with that kind of mileage if it was an EB, I don't care what people say.

An American V8 on the other hand will last FOREVER.

While it's certainly not the norm, with BMW having sold a six-figure volume of B58 equipped cars in the US alone each year for the past 8 years, there have to be a fair number up there already. Even at the "standard" annual mileage of 12k, that would mean that the average 2015 build would be halfway there already, and obviously there's a decent contingent of people who drive a LOT more than the average.

When you got your AMG, years ago, I remember thinking "Oh boy..."

However seems to me it is a remarkably solid car, I do not recall you mentioning major issues or BIG BIG bucks needed for repairs or anything. And you've had the car for YEARS now and love every second.

I'm sure all the maintenance sucks bc it's way more expensive bc AMG, but nature of the beast!

the airmatic struts are the biggest kink in the reliability armor, but on those you can save a few hundred $$$ by using arnott reman struts... other than the struts i've had to replace the alternator, intercooler pump (surprisingly not bad), air compressor for the suspension, diff seals started seeping a bit, i sheared a rear subframe bolt (annoying since it took a lot of labor to access the top of the <$10 bolt), and the dual idler pulley which i did myself when i first got the car

something that would've been big money was been replacing the entire fuel tank and sender unit that started leaking, but that was done under warranty! the fuel tank recall was extended out to 15 years so that all got replaced for free, with a loaner given! they gave me a GLC300, and i remember being like ya know... i think it's only fair i get the present day equivalent of my car while mine is being worked on... it got a brief chuckle out of politeness but a very firm no

maintenance also isn't particularly terrible, well, that is if you consider an E500 to be within reason lol... the only big 'AMG' cost is the extra fuel and the brakes but luckily those can last a looooong time under normal driving conditions... same concept as a big under-stressed V8! fit the car with gigantic cross-drilled rotors and 8 piston brembo calipers designed to stop 2+ tons from 190+ mph and they'll last for years and years when being driven like the grandpa sedan it is underneath lol

idk the exact moment it happened but at one point i noticed some creaking sounds from the back of the car, like definitely not normal sounds... and when my mechanic got the car up on the lift you could see the back left kind of droop down a bit

the instant violent torque of the supercharged V8 literally damages the car! i did a bunch of research after it happened and that generally seems to be the consensus... that as those bolts get older they're more prone to snapping when you hit the gas

the car isn't even particularly rusty... it spent the first decade of its life inside a florida garage being driven about 8k miles a year

That's quite alarming that a main bolt failed like that, I've ever had that or seen that happen personally even in cars like 1000hp hellcats/M5s or even 650hp M2s
