Its not an M5 or E55. Nevermind the true king of the early 2000s, the RS6

It was in fact the fastest 4 door sedan ever made for a brief time. You’re too young to remember but this car was extremely cool, and a HUGE deal for Lexus. Lexus was in that conversation at this time.

Was that when it first came out? I totally believe that since the last version of the LS400 was also up there quite a bit, I really wish they kept that going lol!

This has been posted here before, but I re-read this article frequently when I was young. I still have the magazine (albeit missing its cover) somewhere in my basement: 50-Grand Gazelles: 1999 Luxury Sports Sedans Compared (caranddriver.com)

My mother had a 996 911 on order at the time so between that comparison test and the 911 road test, that particular C&D issue had a lot going on for me.

Yep, when it first came out.

I was at a party when I was in high school and I drove the LS400, my friends could not believe that we did not get the GS400 because it was so cool. Thats 17 and 18 year olds lusting after a Lexus, so yes it was a big deal that car.

Non car people? I was lusting after LS400s since the day they came out. I still would have rather had an LS.

do you remember in sopranos when uncle jun' was starting to get a little out there, he's watching tv and it's actually curb he's watching, he sees larry and jeff and freaks out thinking it's him and bobby bacala! hilarious crossover moment that luckily could've happened since they were both HBO shows haha

I remember the GS forum was so active with people modding this car. There were always people posting teasers about their aftermarket wheels and then doing the "unveiling" which I thought was a little lame. At CL meets there were always plenty of modded GSs. Miss those days, I had more time to do those things.

Those GS400s were sick.

Back then, Xenons were new and that GS had a sharp set of them, with bright OEM yellow foglights. Add the chrome rims? Whew. Very 90s but whew.

It looked great.

They were 17 and 18 year old guys, so all "car people" to a certain extent. Very few guys that age would have rather had an LS like us lol

Here's a random Curb factoid. That "Carpool Lane" episode helped prove the innocence of a guy who was accused of murder. When Larry goes to the Dodgers game, the guy is actually visible in the stadium and it was his only ability to prove he couldn't have been the murder suspect since he was documented on film as being at the game. When he initially told the police he was at the game, they didn't believe him. His attorney tried to find video or picture proof from the stadium of him being there but couldn't find it. Then they discovered Curb was filming there that day and asked for all footage and it ended up proving him innocent.

I heard there is a Netflix doc on it.
