had start/stop in the santa fe. it restarted smoothly (yes, a 4 cylinder!). no complaints unless it was scortching hot and the ac wasn't blowing super cold while the engine was off, so i'd let up on the brake so the car wanted to creep forward and thus started the engine and a/c then blew cold again. bit of a game but no biggie.

of course my ev replacement has none of these challenges.

And, in that case and for your theoretical use, good.

I have no idea what it's like but yes it must be nice to constantly own cars under warranty.

Out of warranty doesn’t worry me with Toyota.

Recently picked up another 5.7 over the V6 twin turbo. Will probably throw a magnuson supercharger on it

‘That’s cool. It’s good to know that those V8s hold up well. Burn any oil?

I 2nd this. I’ve never purchased an extended warranty on any Lexus/Toyota vehicle I’ve owned.

I started to reply no but I’ll be honest, I only check the oil after I change it and that’s every 10k-15k using Mobil 1 synthetic oil and Toyota OEM filters from Amazon. I run it hard. Tow regularly.

I think you’d know of you burn oil. My Matrix burns oil so we have add oil every 1000 miles

for a long time now i've been an advocate for having at least one leased car since there is tangible value in always having something current and under warranty, and generally speaking the less worn out something is the less likely it is to have a problem

however i also think that some cars are special enough that they're worth keeping for much longer than the duration of a lease, and their true value can't be fully appreciated until after many years of ownership... also sometimes the upcoming model will introduce "upgrades" that actually end up just ruining a perfectly good thing

I’ve never added oil between oil changes. I neglect preventative maintenance on it. I just change oil and add gas. At the mileage it’s at, I look at it like I’m playing with house money. I think I got my money worth out of it.

If I had your matrix, I would add oil whenever the oil light came on. If it doesn’t have a low oil light, it would blow.

I am also not a fan of engine start/stop. I rented a vehicle two years ago in Germany and it was an awful Citroen crossover. There was nothing to like about it, but start/stop was something I had to disable every time I got in the pos to go anywhere. The Hyundai Kona I rented in Germany in September was a much better vehicle, but the seats were uncomfortable. I also do not like crossovers at all. They handle poorly which is not ideal on the Autobahn especially in sections where there is no speed limit. You have to plan ahead when passing because the poor handling is immediately noticeable. At least it didn’t have start/stop.

We had one on our 2RX, and though it was never used for the reason I bought it (concerns about headlight condensation), it still saved us a fortune. Fortunately it only had one >$500 repair after the extended warranty expired.
