Default Advice on new Car / SUV…..

Lease on our X3 M40i is coming up in about 5 1/2 months so I’m starting the search but so far it’s not looking too good lol
This is definitely one of the worst times to buy / lease a new car and even more difficult if you want something that is performance oriented in any way.

The other issue is leasing programs are no longer attractive and financing rates are not ideal either.

Ideally I want to get back into a sedan that offers luxury, sportiness and decent room in the back.
Requirements are AWD preferably based on RWD platform, 6cyl motor, performance oriented.
M3 wagon would be perfect if it came to US and you can actually buy one at MSRP!

Anyway below are some cars I’m considering:
1 - Buyout my current car
2 - Get new X3 M40i, 6 month wait and lease price is over $1,000
3 - 540i, 6 month wait
4 - M550i, sales guy said 12 month wait because they are not making V8s…
5 - M3 xDrive, over 12 months and ADM
6 - Alfa Rome Stelvio Quadrofoglio
7 - Genesis G80 / GV80
8 - Acura MDX
9 - Mustang Mach E / Tesla Model Y
10 - CPO Porsche Panamera

Other thoughts:
- I’m not much of MB guy but plan to test drive GLE.
- No interest in Audi or Lexus
- Considering buying Subaru Legacy or Outback but buyout on my X3 is not that much higher.

Anyway shopping for cars right now is no fun.

Agreed- thats why i put it at top.
Just bored of it and gas mileage is pitiful because its an SUv, getting 16mpg. Also will only have 1yr left of warranty. There is a few other things I’m not too crazy about.

Hoping i can get decent deal on fully loaded 540i, they just released 2023MY pricing.

I only drive approx 6k miles a year so my driving is prob way different and because of this I'd be an idiot to buy/lease a new car and take such big depreciation for so few miles driven.
Used car prices are insane too, so holding off to upgrade mine for now.

The X3 is a nice car and almost bought one(used) a couple years ago.
A newer one off lease would prob last me 20 years more as little as I need to drive and wife loves that car- so I'd keep if I was in your situation but that's me.
How many miles per year do you drive, just curious?

I do think these prices will improve and the waits will improve...

Just buy the X3, there is a lot of uncertainty coming ahead.

I have every anticipation that I will buy the two cars I have out of their leases next year and keep them a while because of the comparatively much higher cost of replacing them with similar cars

Buy out your lease. It’s not worth getting a car right now. If I were in your shoes that is what I would do and I struggle to keep a car longer than 3 years.

^^^I second, third, and fourth this. If I had a lease that was expiring, I would extend the current lease or buy it out, as you probably got favorable terms when you initially signed the lease. Whatever you are paying now, you will pay double if you get into another lease. You can always sell your car later once the market gets more favorable

Or trade in you X3, collect on the equity and apply it to whatever car you want.

Lots of bimmer dealers are still doing orders for MSRP.... I4sx ix, m3s.....at least around here.....

The issue is the wait time plus horrendous lease programs even at MSRP for M3 and M550.
I can probably get $1-2k off with loyalty and other incentives but residuals and MF are really bad.

Probably have about $5-7k in equity, maybe more.

Don't you have a brz or 911 you can slum in for a bit?!

Ya, it sucks on the timing, that's why I ordered a few cars and just waited.

I think the days of cheap German leases are over

The frustrating thing is production is being artificially capped on 6 and 8cyl cars, no problem for the base 4cyl versions. This is not just BMW but all brands; not sure if they are being controlled by government / emissions to limit these cars.

The other issue is you wont be able to trade the BMW lease in anywhere but BMW...
