After that interesting EV thread, wanted to turn it back to normal thread about....EVs! :P
Oddly enough, there isn't one about the bmw i4, and I ordered one a couple of months ago (more specifically, the m50) and should be here by the end of the year.
I considered the Tesla m3p, but:
- I have a M3 Sr+, MYLR, and MYP already, so wanted something different- kinda missed idrive (especially screen mirroring)
- wanted a more luxurious interior- can still get a EV large tax rebate
As posted previously, I test drove an iX and wasnt impressed, but was in a i4 and it made me feel at home (as a former m340i and x3m owner), so look forward to being a bimmer owner again....
Please share any articles about the i4 or better yet your personal experience, especially ownership of it here and I'll update more as I get the car....
Congrats. It looks like a fantastic car. It's like an M3P but way more refined and conventional. Probably a better overall car than the M3P as it should be given the price.
Does BMW make you do service intervals? My issue with bmw has always been that the powertrain tends to be more expensive in terms of reliability and maintenance in the long run. EVs remove that worry for me so I would get an iX3 if it were on a bespoke EV platform.

I've driven the i4 M50 in Portimao Blue. My takeaways
Highlights:
- Feels familiar (chassis and interior lifted from the 4-Series GC)
- Strong acceleration (faster than the M4 Comp)
- Quiet
- Excellent iDrive
- Apple CarPlay / Android Auto
- Better than it's M440xi GC cousin
- Braking is strong
- Unlike the iX you can open the hood and see the power inverter, struts etc...
Lows:
- Weight (because it's so closely related to the 4-Series GC)
- Door handles are cheap and from the 90's (they should of used the iX ones)
- Less cargo space than the 4GC
- Options can make it expensive (though to be fair that's the case for most BMW)
I recognize that place its East Bay BMW! Cool car, we recently put money down on a Model Y, but could still be in the market for the i4. We'll have to make our way down there to check it out.

Portimao is one of the best colors on the market. I'd be curious how the steering on the i4 compares to the gas 3 series.
I ordered in portimao blue / red interior (had to do something different after my plain Jane model 3 / y interiors! Lol
I will compare it against my (tuned) m340i I had before....
Ps - are u still at Fremont Lexus or did u move to a bimmer dealership now?

No I left them in 2019. I'm back with my old company Hendrick Automotive in Pleasanton, on the operations side of things now for our three stores Acura, BMW, and Lexus. No more dealing with customers it's all internal!

Wow, good to know. I bought 4 cars from Putnam Lexus. Next time I might hafta knock on your door...
I have yet to see one of these on the roads or any new 4series GranCoupe, even regular coupe is rare. The grill is big turn off for most buyers I think.
I watched several review videos on youtube trying to get a screen shot under the hood for ya'll but I struck out miserably so far.
I'll keep looking post up just for fun if I find.
At least a rolling chassis and power train outline pics would be cool if I can find it.

Won't do any good. I don't think they have conventional hoods. You'll probably find a "frunk", which sounds stupid enough and can barely hold anything.

Saw under the hood of my 1st EV last month of a colleague and it was a Chevy Bolt and it had a lot of stuff under the hood- A/C components and Hybrid electric stuff- looked pretty cool actually.
Unfortunately in the videos I saw today on OP's car, one guy popped the hood and looked like he removed some plastic cover and laid it back down and showed nothing.
The videos were "walk arounds" and some test driving but I'm looking for the Good Stuff mostly.

Oh I thought they were storage compartments in the front of an EV. I guess it varies model to model. Just goes to show you my ignorance of an EV. Lol
