Hyundai established a new retail sales record in June for Santa Fe and set new total sales records for Tucson HEV and Nexo. June was the highest sales month in 2022.

“Hyundai’s Q2 retail sales continue to highlight a terrific product mix, and consumer demand for our SUV lineup remains very strong,” said Randy Parker, senior vice president, national sales, Hyundai Motor America. “Our dealers are selling everything they get, and we are continuing our efforts on growing market share.”

GM Continued to Gain U.S. Market Share and Extended its Truck Leadership in the 2nd Quarter

  • 3rd consecutive quarter of sequential market share gains
  • Significant pent-up demand for GM vehicles amid low inventories
  • Sales to commercial, government and rental fleets grew 29% year-over-year
  • Supply chain disruptions to delay delivery of about 95,000 units to dealers into the second half of 2022
DETROIT – General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) sold 582,401 vehicles in the United States in the 2nd quarter of 2022 and the company increased its sales and market share sequentially for the 3rd consecutive quarter. GM’s 2nd quarter sales were down 15% year over year, but market share was up 1 point to an estimated 16.3% (J.D. Power PIN).

“GM’s sales and market share have grown each of the last 3 quarters, even with lingering supply chain disruptions,” said Steve Carlisle, GM executive vice president and president, North America. “Our long-term momentum will continue to build thanks to the launches of groundbreaking new EVs like the GMC HUMMER EV and Cadillac LYRIQ, and the tremendous customer response to the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.”

Second Quarter Sales Highlights
  • GM extended its leadership in full-size pickup truck retail market share for the 13th consecutive quarter, despite very low inventory, with 203,041 combined total sales of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. Their estimated retail market share was 44%. The Chevrolet Silverado remains the fastest growing full-size pickup truck in the industry (J.D. Power PIN), with Silverado HD recording its best first half in retail sales since 2007.
  • Pent-up demand and improved availability helped drive large year-over-year increases in deliveries of the Chevrolet Camaro, up 63%; Chevrolet Colorado, up 52%; Chevrolet Malibu, up 563%; Cadillac XT4, up 116%; and Cadillac CT5, up 70%.
  • GMC delivered its best-ever 1st half retail market share (J.D. Power PIN). Total sales of the GMC Canyon grew 40% and GMC Terrain grew 37% in the quarter. The GMC Sierra HD, which was up 31% in the quarter, delivered its best second quarter and first half on record.
  • GM’s commercial, government and daily rental deliveries were up a combined 29%, with each category posting double-digit growth as customers took advantage of improved availability to refresh and expand their fleets, which reflects strong employment and the recovery in the travel and leisure industries. Sales to commercial and government customers were 73% of the fleet sales mix.
  • Commercial demand was especially strong for full-size vans, up 12%; full-size pickups, up 14%; medium-duty trucks, up 13%; and midsize pickups up 65%.
  • Electric vehicle sales were over 7,300 units, including some of the first deliveries of the BrightDrop Zevo 600 and GMC HUMMER EV Pickup, as well as the resumption of Chevrolet Bolt EV and Bolt EUV production.
  • Cadillac LYRIQ production is accelerating, with initial deliveries in process. Orders for the 2023 model year sold out within hours and preorders for the 2024 model opened on June 22.
  • GM will gradually increase production of the Cadillac LYRIQ and GMC HUMMER EV Pickup in the second half of 2022. Ultium Cells LLC begins producing cells in Ohio to support expanded EV manufacturing starting in August.
  • GM’s sales incentives remained near record lows in the quarter at 2.3% of average transaction prices, according to J.D. Power PIN estimates.
  • The second quarter SAAR was an estimated 13.4 million light vehicles compared to 17 million a year ago.
Production, Delivery and Inventory Updates

GM vehicle production was strong during the 2nd quarter and the company finished the month with 247,839 vehicles in dealer inventory, including units in-transit to dealers. However, GM’s 2nd quarter vehicle wholesale volumes were impacted by the ongoing semiconductor supply shortage and other supply chain disruptions mostly in June.

As a result, GM will hold about 95,000 vehicles manufactured without certain components in company inventory until they are completed and will recognize revenue when they are sold to dealers, which is expected to happen throughout the 2nd half of 2022. The impact of these events, which is not expected to impact GM’s full-year earnings guidance, is discussed in an SEC Form 8-K filed today.

“We appreciate the patience and loyalty of our dealers and customers as we strive to meet significant pent-up demand for our products, and we will work with our suppliers and manufacturing and logistics teams to deliver all the units held at our plants as quickly as possible,” said Carlisle.

General Motors (NYSE:GM) is a global company focused on advancing an all-electric future that is inclusive and accessible to all. At the heart of this strategy is the Ultium battery platform, which powers everything from mass-market to high-performance vehicles. General Motors, its subsidiaries and its joint venture entities sell vehicles under the Chevrolet,Buick,GMC,Cadillac, Baojun and Wuling brands. More information on the company and its subsidiaries, including OnStar, a global leader in vehicle safety and security services, can be found at https://www.gm.com

Mitsubishi Motors Reports Second Quarter 2022 Sales, Outlander Sales Performance Continues to Lead the Way

July 01, 2022 — FRANKLIN, Tenn.

Share
  • Outlander racks up five consecutive quarters of record retail sales, the best year of sales since the nameplate was introduced in 2002
  • Outlander quarterly retail sales up 55.9% compared to Q2 2021
  • Outlander PHEV and Eclipse Cross retail sales up year-over-year
Having recently celebrated 40 years of business operations in the United States, Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) today reported second quarter 2022 sales. Mirroring similar concerns across the auto industry, supply constraints of many vehicle lines held overall sales to 21,872, a year-over-year decrease. Nevertheless, with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation in Japan working to maximize inventory of the 2022 Outlander for U.S. customers, sales of the company's flagship vehicle bucked the general trend and were up 55.9% versus the same period 2021.

The 2022 Outlander has earned outstanding customer and media accolades since launching in February of 2021. In that time, the seven-passenger SUV marked its best-four consecutive-quarters of retail-only sales since the nameplate was introduced in the U.S. more than 20 years ago. April represented the fourth-best single retail month ever for Outlander.

Other notable sales successes included Eclipse Cross, with 5,712 retail sales in the first half, up 31% over the same period last year, and Outlander PHEV, with 1,126 retail sales across the first half of the year, a 76% improvement over the first half of 2021.

Total vehicle sales across the entire Mitsubishi lineup stands at 21,872 for the quarter, with Outlander representing 46.8% % of total sales by volume – followed by Outlander Sport at 22.4% and Eclipse Cross at 7.9%.

As is the case across the industry, MMNA's dealer partners continue to see inventory impacted by supply chain challenges and remain well below customer demand.

News and Notes
  • Mitsubishi Motors' all-new 2023 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) was displayed at the Twin Cities Auto Show, a logical event given that the St Paul metro area is the largest single market in the U.S. for Outlander PHEV. Outlander PHEV is the world's best-selling plug-in hybrid SUV. The all-new, seven-seat, plug-in hybrid will be available in dealerships later this year.
  • MMNA announced an industry-leading work-from-home policy earlier this year, a benefit more common among cutting-edge technology companies than automotive brands.
  • On June 1, MMNA formally kicked off its partnership with Santander Consumer, USA, to provide retail financing and leasing options to its customers and dealer partners. Santander brings extensive experience in auto financing, and a clear focus on helping Mitsubishi Motors' customers.

  • Sales of BMW’s U.S.-Built Sports Activity Vehicles increase 4.6% in Q2, improve 9.8% YTD vs 2021.
Woodcliff Lake, NJ – July 1, 2022… BMW of North America today reported Q2 2022 sales results for the BMW and MINI brands in the U.S.

BMW Brand

In the 2nd quarter of 2022, BMW brand sales in the U.S. totaled 78,905 vehicles, a 18.3% decrease from the 94,144 vehicles sold in the record-setting second quarter of 2021.

While supply constraints continued to impact inventory availability, high demand for BMW Sports Activity Vehicles and increased allocation from the company’s U.S. plant in Spartanburg, SC led to year-over-year growth of BMW X5 (+15.1%) and BMW X7 (+18.3%) sales, and an overall increase of 4.6% in the light truck segment vs Q2 2021. In total, sales of BMW’s U.S.-built Sports Activity Vehicles are up 9.8% when compared to the first half of 2021.

Despite single digit day supply, sales of BMW’s newest fully electric vehicles also continue to grow, with nearly 1,500 BMW iX Sports Activity Vehicles and more than 1,100 BMW i4 Gran Coupe models now on U.S. roads since they first began arriving in late March.

“We are pleased that demand remains strong, however this quarter was not without its challenges, as our sales were constricted only by the limitations of available inventory,”

said Sebastian Mackensen, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “Since the arrival of the iX and i4 in market this past March, it is clear that enthusiasm for BMW electric vehicles is here to stay. In April, we hosted the world premiere of the first-ever, fully electric BMW i7, to rave reviews from dealers, customers, and press. We look forward to launching this incredible vehicle later this year.”

MINI Brand

MINI brand sales in the U.S. totaled 5,131 vehicles in the second quarter of 2022, a decrease of 45.1% vs the 9,340 vehicles sold in the second quarter of 2021.

SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. REPORTS JUNE AND Q2 2022 SALES

Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) today reported 43,175 vehicle sales for June 2022, a 0.7 percent increase compared with June 2021 (42,877). The automaker also reported year-to-date sales of 263,795, a 17.9 percent decrease compared with the same period in 2021. Subaru continues to face inventory challenges as the result of microchip and supply chain issues affecting automakers across the globe.

“As we close the first half of 2022, we need to thank our retailers for their industry leading sales efficiency,” said Thomas J. Doll, President and CEO of Subaru of America, Inc. “We are looking forward to the second half of 2022 and are confident our retailers will continue providing an industry leading experience to our customers.”

In June, Outback was a top performer by volume with 13,135 sales. Crosstrek sales for June 2022 increased 66.4 percent, while Impreza saw a 28.2 percent increase compared to June 2021. For the first half of the year, the BRZ sports car posted a 130.7 percent increase, while both Crosstrek and Ascent carlines posted an increase of nine percent compared to Q2 2021.

“Our priority for the 2nd half of the year is to continue navigating supply chain challenges to best meet the strong demand for Subaru vehicles,” said Jeff Walters, Senior Vice President of Sales. “As the summer travel season is in full swing, we continue to see a desire for our adventure-friendly vehicles including the Outback, Ascent and Forester.”
