Car Wizard sounded almost like a Scotty Kilmer parrot here (which is ironic since Scotty himself had issues with the LS V8's). Must be low on views recently.
He did admit to sounding like Scotty for the LS video.

Sightly off-topic maybe, but a number of Scotty's recent videos, perhaps in response to earlier comments about his loud, brash, arm-waving style, are far more muted and calm in their speaking-manner.

Car Wizard is way different than Scotty, I enjoy his videos a lot.

Scotty is also running out of original topics or click bate titles. Maybe he is looking to go at a different direction with content.
Pretty sure Lexus water pumps have been plastic for a long time. That’s why it was so important to change them when you did the timing belt. The pump on my 2003 ES300 is definitely plastic. I don’t remember about the 98 LS400 and we never did the TB or water pump on the LS430 as it was gone by about 95k miles.

If my memory serves me right, my LS400 pump was all metal when I replaced it. Either way, a metal pump will fail as well as a plastic one when idiots fill and mix wrong fluids. Nearly every independent repair shop will just add standard green coolant into any car without a second thought. In fact, this is why my LS400 pump failed, it was filled with green fluid when I bought it used.
That's why its best to go to a dealer or a specialized shop for repairs, or DIY.
Something is only as strong as it’s weakest link. If the impeller is plastic, than the whole thing may as well be plastic.
All-plastic pumps often have a leak in the housing especially near the thin/weak points where the mount points are. Or they crack and fail completely. That Toyota pump is extremely reliable the impeller is likely glass reinforced PPS. The bearing seal leaks long before anything else goes wrong.
There are plenty of aftermarket pumps that are all metal, and most of them are bad out of the box or good for one year tops. Its true for most aftermarket rotating assemblies.

Might of had plastic impellers but the actual pump bodies are metal, a plastic impeller can be a good thing since it can't corrode but it all depends on cavitation risk. In a newer car they use them since it seals more easily (less bolts needed) than a metal one but doesn't last as long
Cast and machined parts costs way more to produce vs plastic crap. Worst part is the plastic is basically impossible to recycle aluminum can be recycled endlessly.
