I thought there always was the base FWD model gas only model. Now they add a EV motor and battery, so not exactly cheaper. A little misleading by Lexus.

Lexus ditched the UX200 last year. UX only comes in hybrid now. UX250h only came in AWD so they are simply taking the car and removing the rear electric motor for a cheaper offering.

Still don’t understand why they bother putting in rear seats. So cramped.

Now that Corolla Cross is the reality I don't know how UX will fare down the line. Before it UX was the only option you had if you desired a Corolla CUV (C-HR design exercise a la Juke doesn't count) and you had to pay a premium because of L badge.

not everyone can drive an LS460 or tuned A8 v8 turbo.

maybe their goal is to get more people into the brand, who don't need or care about awd.

i think the car is aimed at younger buyers who either have child seats for the back or just go out with friends on the weekend, and don't need some giant suv.

but i will agree with you as far as my LC500

I know some of you won't believe it, but the UX was my second choice (tied with the Chevy Trailblazer) when I got my Encore GX. I liked the UX's reliability and build-quality (and its standard four-cylinder powerplant instead of a turbo three), but the UX interior was more cramped, and I thought the two GM offerings used better materials inside and had a much better control layout.

They are WAY nicer inside than a corolla and have much better isolation and NVH, the "L" badge does get you quite a lot more quality and I think it's well worth the price increase for the interior space and paint alone.

at least the LC500 is sold honestly as a two seater. If you put a child seat in the UX, the front seats are not usable unless you’re midget size 😀

Anything hybrid right now is selling out. So it makes perfect sense Lexus is going where it can sell the most possible models and ask for MSRP or well over. Just two years ago the UX was leasing for dirt cheap, or half the price it leases for today. Even the Avalon Hybrid is selling out, thanks to the ridiculous gas prices. I bet Toyota wishes they kept that model now.

Most other export markets have been hybrid model only since at least 3 years ago. US is one of the last markets do so.
