To me it depends on the style of the car, I don't have a preference either way. Mine don't move with a center joystick by the way, they operate just like a rectangular vent.

Maybe post up a pic if you feel like it so we can see plz.
If anyone can pull it off I'm sure MB can do it.

Yep, they pop out and close down or limit the airflow. You also have three settings in the climate system for each zone, "focus", "medium" and "diffuse" that controls the spread and width of the air that comes out and that difference is really noticeable. "diffuse" makes it feel like general air is coming out of the dash and there arent any cold or hot spots.

My only complaint is that the fan is much louder than the fan on the Lexus. Takes a little getting used to, but the HVAC works awesome.

"Paints the airflow direction?" What are you talking about?

I love the LS430 with the smart oscillating vents, no other car in the world ever had that. I had to educate my friend with the LS430 who never used them bc he didn't know they are smart. The air vents are also high quality as there is nice chrome on parts of the pieces where you adjust them.

The smart vents do work, as well with the air distribution etc. They work well, actually.

m.
I meant “air flow strength” Look at the little white painted diagram on either side of the dial.

Yep they really do sweat the details, at least in the high end Lexus vehicles. I have always noticed the air flow is never loud in my LS, but the day I rode in my friend's S560 just like yours I did notice that. I took my LS430 out immediately after, air flow noticeably quieter with virtual same fan speeds.

Yeah the fan on like 3, which is not high, registers interior noise 2dB higher.

Now the fan is way more powerful than what Lexus uses, so perhaps its a tradeoff. When you start it on and the HVAC comes on it sounds like a precision high powered sealed airflow unit, its pretty incredible.

Interesting. I thought MB"s fan was kind of weak even on highest setting. The loudest of all IMO is the Max A/C on BMW. It's loud but gets the car cool fast when you hit it. This thread reminds me my childhood. Motorcycles first came out with circular headlights, then the newer ones came out with rectangular ones and it set the trend since that point. But some, very few, still come with circular headlights. For the round one to work, the motorcycles need to be in particular designs IMO. I personally don't like round vents. I prefer longer rectangular vents. Some MBs have shorter rectangular vents which are OK. The plus is there are more openings so they allow consumers to direct air more precisely.

My only real experience with their fans is in the S Class, possibly on the cheaper cars they aren’t as strong

I had the same thought when I first got my A8, the fan on 1/3 is louder than the LS on max.....same with the cooled seats. Not sure why they do that p
