I don’t link the memory seats to the keys personally…but if you have multiple people who drive a car, memory seats are a great thing.

Yeah we each have our own keys to each car but we go places together and that means we have both keys to whatever car we are driving and I don’t want the seats to adjust to whatever key it uses to unlock, so I just use the memory buttons.

So it doesn't really apply to cars as much but I do have an "alternate" memory setting in the SUVs for when I'm wearing armor/helmet etc since those really change where you sit. Helm in particular when NODs on make you about 4-5 inches taller and the memory settings allow a much easier time getting everything right.

Vans are best though for people in gear.....

4 of the 5 cars I've bought in the past 25 years has had a power lock for the fuel door that is tied into the central locking system. When the doors are locked, so is the fuel door.

It's life changing when the 2 drivers are significantly different heights.....

What would be the rationale to lock the fuel door with the doors looking?

I don’t think Lexus has programmable key fobs for memory settings, at least not on mine. My Volvo did however, one time I used the spare key the seat started moving in a strange position. Kind of annoying actually. GM and Acura key fobs used to have numbers on the back of them. Like #1 and #2.

How is that any different than a door pull inside?

Once you've decided that it's worthwhile to have the fuel door locked (since you criticized Toyota above for eliminating it, I assume you're here already), eliminating manual steps to unlock it is an added convenience.

The real world implications are that the fuel door can't be opened anytime I'm away from the car (or while driving, but that seems dramatically less likely). But when I stop to refuel, my experience is the same as if it were never locked in the first place. Best of both worlds.

It eliminates a step. No need to think about opening it before you get out of the car. It's already open.

I like the idea of a lock. Not opposed to it

I knew as much. That was just a rhetorical question, to reframe the discussion.

I wonder if Toyota has ever had a lock linked to the door locks. Seems more complicated
