They're painted plastic, they still don't feel cheap. In fact the one in the S560 opens all the way in a very slick damped motion

That would be cool

hey're painted plastic, they still don't feel cheap
If the door is not metal. Cheap to me. I also noticed the plastic style doesn’t have a gas cap holder

That metal Lexus fuel door actually feels way cheaper than the plastic door, I have the same metal fuel door in my old ES. Its thin and tinny and has sharp edges everywhere.

The plastic door on the MB absolutely has a holder for the cap, and the Chrysler the filler is capless which is my preference.

I agree that is has shape edges. I just don’t like whole plastic thing, and all. But the inner door part is sometimes nicely finished

Plastic like that is just a part of modern cars. Its weight savings. Doesn't bother me at all.

I just don't get the button thing. You just lightly press the fuel door and it whirrs open.

I prefer to not have to press a button to open my fuel door. But I’m used to it now because I’ve been doing it for 11 years.

Also, a big pet peeve of mine. People who just let their gas cap dangle down on the paint. And it seems like EVERYONE does it. Even people that have clean cars, I very rarely see people actually use their gas cap holder.

Also, does anyone remember the Pontiac Aztec and the 2000s Hummers? I don’t even think they had a fuel filler door only exposed gas caps.

Yes, in the MB the fuel door just opens up easily when the car is unlocked. It's very solid.

When I push the fuel door button it pops open.

However, I can see it's just a flimsy thin piece of metal for a locking tab that can probably be broken into with a pocket knife or screw driver pretty easily.

It looks more like a deterrent with a closed fuel door than being a locked fuel door. Lol

Add, duh, I guess it is locked if I have to break it to open the fuel door. Just not a very good lock tho... Lol
Right, lol. It doesn't have to be locked like a safe, the simple mechanism it should deter vandals..... who would go to the many cars where fuel doors ARE exposed and leave ours alone most likely.

My MB doesn't even have a tether lol. My LS400 didn't either, all my other Lexuses did.

Taking that picture I found another neat feature. The car has been in the garage unlocked, even though its unlocked because it sat for a long time the car locked the fuel door. I had to unlock it with the fob to unlock the fuel door.

Of course! Who can forget the disastrous Aztec? One of GM's worst.

I still see Hummers from that era rolling around occasionally.

Is the door metal or plastic?

Seeing how this is a button thread. I just think that pressing the button is a little more classy And plus, if the button is backlit, even nicer.

Your dad Cadillac STS was really cool in how it was labeled fuel door

Technically you are doing the same action. Push a button or push a door.

what possible scenario would you need to unlock it with your key fob?
