i should have said it differently. It’s from a cost saving in manufacturing and innovation,POV. There are far fewer parts and it’s more a one piece unit where the filler top is.

It’s a good idea. It just has some reliably deficiencies built into it as it is a cheaper design. Toyota will eventually goes this route I think.

but when I see Lincoln have a dedicated page. And says contact your Lincoln Dealer……hmmm

there was a whole thread on this in the lc forum. if i recall right, apparently there's some kind of traffic radar system in japan or something that is enabled/disabled with a button there. the accuracy of the description i just typed though is likely very low.

in other words, that's always a blank spot on u.s. lc500's.

It’s kind of janky in a $90,000 LX570 there’s no electronic fuel release. Done by cable. Could have been done for durability, though.

had to replace the door spring on ours. Part was $5 on eBay from Lexus dealer. Local dealer wanted $25.

We had to replace the entire fuel door on our RX. The hinge would stick, and the cheap, thin metal would bend so that it was no longer aligned properly. Eventually it couldn't be bent back into shape any more. Since it is a complete unit riveted to the body, that meant the entire door had to be replaced. Which meant a trip to the body shop and a few hundred dollar repair because a 15 cent piece of stamped steel wore out.

The 13-year old fuel door on my E90--which locks automatically, is nicely finished on the inside, and has a very convenient cap holder built in--still works every bit as smoothly as the day it rolled off the assembly line.

Same with my MB, it's slick. Although I just replaced the gas cap (oem). The fuel door panel seems just as bombproof as the rest of the car.

I'm at the gas station a lot with that car lol.

i couldn't follow the lock debate (no care) but as for capless being a cost cutting measure, we don't know if that's true or not but it sure is convenient not to have to touch a cap.
even better, my ev doesn't go to a gas station ever.

I don’t see how it is. It’s not fewer parts. There is still a cap you just don’t remove it. Removable Gas caps are cheap plastic…

Missing blanked out buttons are not cool.
Repurpose it or something. Lol

I have a couple on my car for features I don't have.

Just a blank button that does nothing.

NOT coooool. Lol

Unlike other forums, we talk about stuff that matters! Haha.

I would think they have to.

As picky as car are now about the evap system loosing pressure, looks like a failure point.

People replace their gas caps all the time for throwing emission codes, what makes a capless system immune to that?

Except it would be more expensive and a lot more work than just chucking the old cap and getting a new one.

Like it should be. Haha
