People replace their gas caps all the time for throwing emission codes, what makes a capless system immune to that?

Except it would be more expensive and a lot more work than just chucking the old cap and getting a new one.

Like it should be. Haha
"All the time", I spend a lot of time reading forums, and I don't see a lot of posts about people replacing fuel caps.

I don't recall having ever replaced a fuel cap in my life. Maybe if I lost one at a gas pump?

Yep, happens fairly often as a cheap third step when folks get an evap related CEL (after tightening and cleaning). Certainly not all the time but not insignificant, especially as cars get older.

I've been driving since 1986, and I replaced my fuel cap one time, and that was only because I wanted to try a cheap DIY option before bringing it in for a more involved repair with a gas cap error warning light...and replacing the gas cap didn't fix the error.

This literally just happened with me with the SL. I picked it up yesterday lol. Needed a new gas cap.

CEL cleared and gone.

Imagine how I felt as he was reading the code, lmao... When I saw P442 or 445 (whatever small evap leak is) let's just say there was a fast pulse that returned to normal. CEL on a Mercedes--- nightmare.

you have a German car…they becomes a PITA at some point. (America cars too) My brothers BMW has been a constant nuisance. But hasn’t left him stranded

good thing you live in a state that doesn’t have a missions test

There's nothing wrong with it, it needed a gas cap.

My friend has a C300 with an AMG badge. I tell him to rip it off. He tells me to put an AMG badge on my SL, which I'd NEVER do.

it's a move clearly indicative of a superficial poser

we're both making assumptions though, maybe it's meant for the minivan lol

It has the AMG appearance package lol

All kidding aside that’s why I didn’t buy it. If it just said Mercedes Benz or said nothing I would have bought it

Stock Mercedes gas caps are pretty solid and hefty, way more than in the Lexuses. That's why I was surprised it threw a CEL and I needed another one.
