I would think they have to.
As picky as car are now about the evap system loosing pressure, looks like a failure point.
People replace their gas caps all the time for throwing emission codes, what makes a capless system immune to that?
Except it would be more expensive and a lot more work than just chucking the old cap and getting a new one.
Like it should be. Haha

Yep, happens fairly often as a cheap third step when folks get an evap related CEL (after tightening and cleaning). Certainly not all the time but not insignificant, especially as cars get older.

I've been driving since 1986, and I replaced my fuel cap one time, and that was only because I wanted to try a cheap DIY option before bringing it in for a more involved repair with a gas cap error warning light...and replacing the gas cap didn't fix the error.

CEL cleared and gone.
Imagine how I felt as he was reading the code, lmao... When I saw P442 or 445 (whatever small evap leak is) let's just say there was a fast pulse that returned to normal. CEL on a Mercedes---

This literally just happened with me with the SL. I picked it up yesterday lol. Needed a new gas cap.
CEL cleared and gone.
