Ok, but this was a freight rail negotiation ... what do freight rail conductors do?

and why do trains still need 'drivers' when they're on rails for goodness sakes, and have signals everywhere.
Go and watch Unstoppable with Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. Based on a true story.

They do a variety of work, from train-scheduling to being a yard foreman, to switching freight cars around to different trains....whatever is specifically needed at that time.

Another strike recently loomed, but both the House and Senate have now passed a resolution-bill that will avert a possible December strike. Under the Railway Protection Act of 1926, the U.S. Congress has the authority to resolve railroad strikes.

Although this post deals with with Congress, BTW, I don't necessarily consider it political......it deals squarely with a settlement of the strike threat, which would have vastly shut down much of the new-vehicle-shipment buisness from the plants.
