Just doesn't look right. If there is indeed less room inside than the Avalon, then why on earth would they create this? And with lower gas mileage to boot.
They are playing the GM game, creating new model names in an effort to bring in new customers. It won't work. They will just go elsewhere or stick to an ES/Camry.
This my friend, is the future of Toyota/Lexus. A combination of hybrid and turbocharged hybrid engines. MPG's are really not that bad except for the Platinum (41/42 for the XLE and Limited and 29/32 for the Platinum). But like you, I don't really like it

At this point, they should have just made an electric version of the Avalon. Maybe use the electric architecture of the recent SUV they rolled out. This likely won't stand out anymore than an XLE Camry.

i think this will be an epic failure.
You're right. It will fail big time.

Maybe you can go back to the dealer and get a pic. Lol

I do have pics. I wasn’t gonna share. But not from far. That is much higher than a Avalon
I've seen it in person, we're defintely not talking RAV4 ground clearance here. It just looks tall because of the cladding, wheels, and slightly raised suspension. The effect isn't nearly as dramatic as the S60 cross country with its 7.9in. of ground clearance:
Toyota doesn't always tell you the real stats. It depends. Toyota's Japan SUV list their lowest running clearance and that is cross member near the transfer case. however the rear of the SUVs are MUCH lower in the suspension points at the rear. I have no idea how they measured the Crown, but it is looks much higher off the ground than any Avalon ever could be.
We weren't surprised that Toyota would be looking to drop the Avalon, a relatively unexciting model in a rapidly shrinking market
To say that the Avalon was unexciting depends on one's point of view....IMO, a statement like that is B.S. In fact, the pre-2013 and post-2016 versions were quite comfortable and pleasant to drive....the 2013-2016 models were simply too firmly-sprung and had El Cheapo interior materials, which was corrected after 2016.
One reason that the large sedan market is rapidly shrinking (besides the greater flexibility of crossovers) is that they are too bulky and difficult to maneuver and park in some conditions.
On the new Crown, I am not impressed with the dash for a top-line sedan...IMO it is too plain-looking, and looks too much like that of a Corolla Cross at half the rice.
